Correlation =/= causation.

And it's rather darkly humorous that this happened in the town of Slaughter.

So I suppose if someone ate carrot cake before killing someone, carrot cake is the reason for the murder?

Darn you carrot cake! In all seriousness, I do agree with you. You can blame this kind of stuff on absolutely anything.

Don't take the internet so serious. :P Also that article is lame, playing videogames is practising for what you are doing in the videogames? I must be a pro-athlete, driver, pilot, astronaut, assassin, swat, navy seal then.

"Child psychologist Dumbass McDumbass said access to a violent video game such as Grand Theft Auto IV may encourage aggressive behaviour."

And access to actual firearms is surely fine.

It's true actually. How many times did you watch Ninja Turtles as a kid and then Immediately go outside and play Ninja turtles by swinging sticks throwing rocks, and punching your friends. Well, most of you phucks didn't because you're too fat and lazy to play outside. But we did as kids

That's nice, but you do realize that the vast majority of kids don't kill their grandmothers, right?

I like the fact the article highlights an 8 year old playing GTA over the fact the family are stupid enough to leave a gun with in his reach...

Maybe they gave a loaded gun to him as a gift with his copy of GTA.

"awards points to players for killing people." I played through the whole of GTAIV, I don't remember getting points for killing people. Strange. Is it possible that a mainstream media outlet is talking sh!t to try and make games look bad? Surely not.

While he shouldn't have played a mature game such as GTA since he's eight, it's even more oddly that he seems to have had access to the firearm.

Back in my day we rode our dad-made bikes 40 miles up hill in the snow to play Kill the Commie.

Naturally, the game is a bigger problem than the fact that the child's parents obviously left a firearm within it's reach.

1. Why was an 8 year old playing an M-rated game? Where was his supervisor?
2. Why did an 8 year old have access to a firearm? Where was his supervisor?

Honestly, its the fault of whoever let him play it. Whoever that was, was being irresponsible, by not monitoring the child's influences and outlets such as GTA. Its not the game that should be blamed. No 8 year old should be anywhere NEAR a GTA game. I do (of course) blame the kid for the shooting, but I blame the person who let him play GTA for allowing that sort of influence to come upon him.

I love how in these types of articles they always say you "get points for killing people" or something along those lines. I mean really, points? Do they think all games are like pac man or galaga?

Two.

Three is if you kill a police officer or a lot of them. 4 you'll have the swat team on you.

I can't help but feel the like two arguments 'video games don't promote violence!' and 'kids that age shouldn't be playing violent games like this!' sort of contradict.

An 8-year-old child shouldn't be playing a mature-rated video-game.

So where are all these murders of the other kids that play GTA? There are hundreds of thousands if not millions of kids under 17 playing these game so where are all these other child crime sprees? While a very small percentage of the population may be directly influenced to act out violent behavior by seeing violent behavior believe it or not there were kids before video games doing similar acts.

right, but we didn't actually believe we were mutated turtles that were formally trained in martial arts. We knew the stick in our hand was not an actual sword or sai. We knew the gap between imagination and reality, even as kids

An 8 year old? All you video game apologist are sick in the head if you think GTA had zero influence on his actions. It's ironic how we live in a society that condemns such behavior yet at the same time glorifies it. You reap what you sow America.
