Wouldn't it be much easier to just allow VC games to be stored on SD Cards?

That's good news. Maybe they'll have a dvd attachment with extra memory space.

There's piracy and hacking spelt all over that.

You know, it's a rumor and everything, but I know for a fact this will happen, with talks of a demo channel and new consoles on VC, there's no way that sd cards and the wii's memory could hold all the games people will buy, and nintendo knows VC is the biggest cash cow for them outside the ds and pokemon.

No there isn't. Each system has a specific number, or identity. If the VC games are configured so that they only play on the system on which they are downloaded, you would not be able to transfer VC games from one system to another.

I hope this becomes a fact. It would make the Wii some easier and get rid of the annoying SD cards.

I would rather be able to use USB jump drives than a external HDD.

I'd rather se my own USB hard drive, but hey at least they're doing something.  Come on Nintendo, prove me wrong and show that you actually CARE about your fans.

I'd rather $5 give you 5 old NES games instead of one.

Knowing Nintendo, if this rumor turns out to be true the HDD will probably only be available in Japan. Sometimes I really think that Nintendo hates Americans and Europeans.

External hard drive?  Seems pointless in the face of the massive SDcards available now.  I don't doubt this will happen, Nintendo likes its accessories, but it won't happen for a while.  They'd be smart to allow any USB drive to work, but then offer their official drive anyway.  People likes us with tech skills could use our own equipment, while the casual players that the Wii is aimed at will buy the official Nintendo HDD.  They make more money and make the hardcore crowd happy.

The article does not mention what kind of file systems the Wii HDD will support. FAT32? NTFS? EXT3? U2? Or does it use some other proprietary format?

Nobody needs a hard drive, unless you want dozens of VC games.

This is ok news I guess. I would rather they just fix SD card support. Better yet the Wii should have had a HDD to begin with.
