Golden Sun would be rather hard for a child. How about some of the Harvest Moon games? Below is a link that tells the story of each one (plus really nice walkthroughs).
Yep I've played harvest moon. Game is for me: golden sun sounds good. Looked up browser inside story seems cool and also chrono trigger. Heard of heroes of rune could look it up
List of rpgs i have played on my ds/3ds - chrono trigger - radiant historia - contact - etrian odyssey 1,2 and 3 (very hard but old school dungeon crawl, would recommend you play 3. Prepare to die a lot though) - rhpasody a musical adventure (a little too easy) - magical starsign - infinite space (very meh imo) - dark spire (game is hard, but so worth it) - animal crossing (not much of an rpg but what a game it is) - Dragon quest 4,5 and 6 (good games) - Dragon quest 9 (very boring imo) - devil survivor (good story, the gameplay is tactics based however) - wizard of oz yellow brick road (easy gameplay, didnt enjoy it too much) - suikoden tierkreis (godawful voice acting and very anime.. i could not stand this) - the world ends with you (could not stand the protagonist) all these on the ds.. i might have missed a few
