WHERE'S THE HYPE?!?!!!?
Currently sitting at an 82 on Metacritic, Pokemon Conquest looks to be what most Pokemon spin offs have failed to be in the past: great. Don't be fooled by the fact that this isn't your usual Pokemon RPG collectathon (or breedathon for you competitive battlers), this game is the real deal, and it's a shame that it's being overlooked. Who would have thought something like that would ever have been said about a Pokemon game anyway?
Why be hyped you ask?
First off, it's Pokemon. That alone warrants taking a look. Second, it's a collision course with one of the oldest series in gaming in Nobunaga's Ambition. What you end up with is an SRPG with Pokemon style, meaning high replayability and no chance of a social life once you pick this one up.
But don't take my word for it, here's some snippets from some of the reviews.
_____
"Thanks to some brilliant execution (and teamwork) by developers Tecmo Koei and the Pokémon Company, Pokémon Conquest not only works, it?s possibly the most cohesive, fully realized spinoff in Pokémon history."
- IGN, 9.0
_____
"Though the Pokémon label might be slightly disingenuous, Conquest does offer a novel, enjoyable take on the strategy genre?and the Pokémon brand also gives the traditionally hardcore strategy genre a modicum of accessibility to a wider audience. If the wider Pokémon fanbase can look past a few curious decisions in regards to this odd franchise marriage, they?ll find a strong strategy title that should provide some severe addiction in its own right."
- EGM, 8.0
____
"You're a Pokémon Warlord. Let that sink in for a second... For those with an interest in either strategy games or RPGs, but not sold on the other, Conquest is the perfect introduction to both. Watching your Pokémon and warlords evolve is a rewarding experience that will keep you coming back for more. Needless to say, the game is aimed toward Pokémon fans, though that doesn?t mean it?s exclusively for them; anyone can play and get a lot from it. Conquest is a good intro to each type of game it draws from?strategy, RPGs, Pokémon, and everything in between. "
- Nintendo World Report, 9.0
