- some aspect of leveling up your character
- gun and sword combos
- "RS2 is tightly focused on intensely physical first person sword fighting, with gunplay a secondary option"
- hold Z to lock onto enemy
- hold down C and swing to block, vertical and horizontal blocks
- switch lock-on at any time
- screen prompts you if you're being attacked from behind. Press A to quick-turn in this situation
- many enemies wear bulletproof armor
- not open world
- not a linear game, multiple paths to take
- several hub-worlds
- side quests
- collectibles
- return to old areas with new powers and abilities
-"non-combat use of MotionPlus wont be limited to opening doors"
- boss fights
- production began last summer
- Ubisoft discussing the lack of multiplayer: "We would love to create a multiplayer engine, but not right now. It's single player because we want to really focus on the core mechanic and as much as we all want to kill each other with swords, it's not going to happen this time.
- Ubisoft on releasing a multiplayer mode through DLC: "That would be cool. The world has changed, and we can do that sort of thing. I certainly think that would be cool. I'd buy it. But we need to be careful bringing out something that people think should be in the main game."

sounds awesome to me - much more promising than the first.

Ok, so it won't be an FPS. Good, because we need a game to show off what the WM+ can do sword-wise.

I like the fact that they're focusing more on swordplay rather then shooting, because with M+ that could be awesome.

Wintry and a few others kind of got it right when they said by the sound of the press release - it wouldn't really be just an FPS. and to be honest I'm kind of glad - the swordplay parts of Red Steel were pretty awful so I'm glad thats the main focus this time, especially with Wii MotionPlus.

I dunno... Something about this game isn't making me very optimistic. I can't quite put my finger on it though. Perhaps it's the game's pedigree.

If it's not a FPS, then the lack of MP is way more understandable.

Yes. Its not a traditional FPS I guess, more like a hybrid game.

I know it's a stretch, but this game sounds a little bit like a Castlevania formula. I say that because Castlevania is pretty much Metroid with leveling (think of the 2D iterations). Since you can revisit areas with your new abilities in RS2, there's probably an emphasis on exploration to a certain extent. Then there's several paths, boss fights.... I know this could describe a lot of games, but the action focus and addition of leveling brings it closer to Castlevania to me at this point. And I love Castlevania.

I thought that the first one was good, but definitely had its flaws. When I've thought about a sequel, I always thought that they should work on improving those problems to make it what the first game could/should have been. But I did not really take into consideration the fact that the sequel might be so different from the original. Based on these details, I'm interested in seeing how they pull it off. I'm glad that they're focusing on actually getting the main game right, without having other distractions like multi-player. I mean, multi-player would definitely be a plus, but I'd rather have a good or even great main game with no multi-player than a decent main game which still has flaws, but also has multi-player.

Because with the action more sword based, it removes much of what most would enjoy in MP FPSs. Also, I'll still call this game an FPS, just as a F(irst) P(erson) S(worder).

I'm much more excited after reading the part about the emphasis on swordplay. With the Wii and MotionPlus, there is so much potential there, and if Ubisoft can get it right, then this could be a very interesting experience. The idea of (good) sword fighting for the Wii has been on my mind ever since I first learned about the Wii Controller. Definitely looking foward to this. Perhaps we will hear more about it at E3.

That sounds much, much better. So it is like and Adventure/Action/FPS hybrid? Come on Ubisoft, time to redeem yourselves.

This could be a work of genious or it could end up being a disaster. I have no problem with you using the sword more just as long as its still holds as a shooter in same way, shape, or form.

It could be the wii's Mass Effect, or Fallout 3. I'm optimistic for it.

I'm optimistic as well, but not that optimistic. If they can't make the sword fighting work in a really fun way, I think the whole game will be shot. As of now, we have little idea of how the sword fighting works. Only a few developers have gotten motion controls to work perfectly (Mario Kart is the first to come to mind), so this is a big if.

I agree. I haven't played the first one but from what I heard from other people, it sounded like it could have been better if it had more time in production.

Its going to depend on how well they mix the gun and sword play.
