i have my wii standing vertically but i had a problem with a game that made so much noise when playing in the wii and the technical support told me to lay the wii down and it might fix it. is it a good idea?

Why do you want our opinion, I think Nintendo's technical support is a more reliable source.

I don't know!?! I might cool it better but then it may be more prone to falling over and potentially damaging your Wii.

The Wii is SUPPOSED to stand vertically, obviously it can lie horizontally but the logo and everything is the right way up when its standing vertically.

Mine's always been vertical, and I haven't had any issues ... knock on wood ...

Exactly

It was designed to be upright but still works perfectly fine on it's side.

"wii stand plate" its supposed to give the wii extra stability when standing vertically, also for the when playing the game-cube since the controller plugs in from the top. it says in the manual that it is EXTREMELY dangerous if the wii falls on its side when its playing a disk.

I think i know what you're talking about. I know mine was making a loud noise when it had a game disc in, but i haven't heard that for a while now, and I've had it verticle ever since. I've had mine for nearly 3 months now, so it could be just a thing that happens to some people when they first get it. Unless you've had yours since launch.. Then maybe you should do what they said.

I'm thinking about putting mine horizontal for the same reason, but I'm pretty sure it's the disks, not the Wii itself. Red Steel and MySims are very loud disks, while others I have make so little noise you almost can't hear them, and one or two games I own are literally silent.
