Link(and yes, the bad pun is intended)

Sounds like the dungeons/puzzle elements are as good as ever, but the train takes away the sense of exploration found in the other games in the series. Probably not going to change the opinions of PH haters, but anybody who enjoyed the last DS version will have fun with this one as well.

8.0 isn't that bad of a score.

Some people will love the train element, because they won't have to explore and keep sailing for hours like in PH. and some people (like the reviewer) will hate it, because they liked the boat and the exploring in PH.

Still going to pick it up though

I don't think the train takes away the sense of exploration. It works pretty much like the boats on WW and PH and those two games had a big sense of exploration, especially the former.

I haven't played it yet, so I don't have any first-hand experience. But it would seem that only being able to travel via the train tracks would be a little limiting, as compared to the relative freedom of WW or PH. But I'm not too worried about that myself...

To me all methods of transportation feel similar. Even though you are limited to the tracks instead of being able to guide your boat through the sea your exploration is still limited to the stations along the track, which would be the equivalent to the islands on both of its prequels.

I wonder how long it will be until Zelda games start earning 7.5 scores as a standard. It's a slippery slope.

Perhaps they should make a game called Zelda: Explore. Where all you do is walk around and find things. I appreciate both aspects of the game, but tire quickly of hunting around for where I'm supposed to be. I think the train system is going to fit well with how I want to play.

I like the linearity the train tracks provide. It's the same as a huge ocean on a steam boat, think about it:

Phantom Hourglass: Vast expanses to explore, how much of it useful? A few islands per area, golden frogs, some boats, some salvage sites (that were mostly crap anyways.) Basically, you were drawing from A to B.

Spirit Tracks: Vast area, but instead of trying to fill it up with things to do to take away from the main game, we're given a much more logical form of exploration. Besides, I doubt every train stop is story relevant, as I'm sure many secret areas will be available to explore. Basically, you're planning a route from A to B.

A to B. Both have the EXACT same concept, yet people are moaning about the fact that train tracks follow a set path...so? Did you draw a very long squiggly route in Phantom Hourglass to get where you were going, or did you just go from point A to B? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Even TP, MM, and OoT are fairly linear in terms of exploration. Sure, they all had open fields and such to explore, but it's not like there was a surplus of things to do in the field. Catch some bugs, find some bomb rocks, dig some holes, catch some Poes. Lots of people don't seem to get that concept though, that for the most part, Zelda games are a point A to B affair. But train tracks are the thing that changes that, for some reason. Weird.

Ah well, even if they get this logic, they'll still blame the controls :/

I'm one of those who was disappointed with PH. But I find myself enjoying ST. I think it's the better story, puzzles, length, and it just feels more (This may sound cheesy) magical than PH. It's just enjoyable to play. And it's much better than PH, so that's all that I care about. So I say it's worth playing.

Isn't GI one of two reviews that gave ST a lower score then PH (or something like that)?
