I haven't done a complete power off yet, I just close the lid and put it on the cradle. I'm guessing this is what most people do too? Would it be bad for the system in the long run?

I power it off at night, yes. During the day I leave it on in case I want to carry it with me when I go out to earn coins.

Only time I've powered it off is when the low battery warning starts to blink (only happened once so far) or when I'm inserting/removing the SD card. Otherwise it stays in sleep mode.

Nope. I leave it in sleep mode so I can use StreetPass and get Play Coins, and I put it on the cradle at night to let it charge. I also leave it on while it's charging, which is something I've done with my DS Lite as well. I do that because there's usually a game in there that I haven't recently saved.

I leave it on so I can get updates or get extra goodies in games. (Recently got a free trophy for Street Fighter Woo!)

The only time I turned mine off was to change the SD card when I first got it. Other than that, It's been on since launch.

I press the Home button, then click the Close button on screen. Then I click the power button. Then I click the power off button on the bottom screen. Then fold it back and put it in my DS Lite protector case.

took it out of the box, charged battery to full, turned it on, played some games, closed the 3ds and put it in the cradle to charge.

Only time I ever fully power off is if my game freezes (which only happened to me once so far) or I need to transfer files from the sd card to my laptop and vice versa.

even when changing games i just close my 3ds and insert a new game then open my 3ds back up and start to play said game.

I read the whole HUGE users mannul that came with it so I know what I can and cant do on my 3ds without messing up the system :)

besides to get updates and streetpass stuff the 3ds needs to be on and/or in sleep mode to receive these.

That's what I do too. I power off every time I'm done playing. The reason? Why not do it? I save battery life, the system boots up fast even when fully shut down, there is no constant battery drain, street pass is non existent as of now, there are no new 3DS updates, etc... The only time I put it in standby is when I cheat for my coins. I just shake the 3DS in my hand while I'm doing something, then of course I shutdown the system afterwards. Multitasking at its finest. **my secretsss**

I know people say there is no memory in these lithium batteries. But I've seen with my Archos media player (that also used a dock) and many laptops that have WAY shorter battery lifes because of constant charging. The archos device "stopped charging" after it fully charged the device, but tons of people were having problems with battery life when they left it on their dock 24/7. I never left mine on the dock overnight and my device never had any battery problems over a few years. My dad used to have his laptop plugged into an outlet all the time, his battery died very quickly. I told him to drain the battery down to 10-15% and charge back up to 100%, rinse and repeat, and he's never had problems with his new laptop. These companies say charging constantly doesn't effect the memory of the battery, but I've seen it far too often. I go with what I've seen and what I know has worked for me.

Don't be surprised if your battery life is shortened if you leave your 3DS on the charging craddle. Don't say I didn't warn ya!

When not in use mine is powered off. For now anyway, maybe when more is available it will be on all the time.
