I remember when I got my wii. 11 hour outside best buy with 8 other really cool guys and 1 really hot girl lol. There were only 10 wiis in stock, and i was 9th in line. I went to a first Best Buy at 10pm. I was 11th in line and the employees hadn't posted how many wiis were in stock yet, so I was there til 1am..and that's when they announced they had TEN WIIS IN STOCK LOL.
I was playing poker with a bunch of guys when they told me everyone who was 11+ wouldn't be gettinga wii...so my dad drove me to different BestBuys all over the city (scarborough). I told him it was okay and that we can hunt another day, but it was 4 days before christmas and he really wanted to get it for me.
Finally, we drove all the way to Whitby, which is a different city from where I live...quit ea drive away. We had a hard time finding Bestbuys, we made a few Tim Horton stops, but we finally found one...
It started to snow...it wsa freezing
I saw a bunch of people in line and I went up and asked them about how many spots there were left open, they said there only 9 wiis...and only 6 ppl in line!!!
I camped out there until 10am. I learned that the sun rises much faster than it sets. It was FREEEZING!
It was so sad when kids came with their parents at like 6am and 7am expecting to get a spot. And when parents came at 10am right when it open in hopes of finding a wii for their kid. Pulled on my heart strings to watch them walk away in disappointment, but I just told myself that something way worse happned to me when i waited in line for a few hours, only to find out i missed out on a wii by 1 spot.
but still...the kids looked so exited to approach the line of people, but looked so sad when they walked away. No Christmas wii for them :/
I finally got my wii, I was so happy, and i met the coolest people. We became really good friends while we waited in the freezing cold for soooo many hours. I'll never see them again mainly because they were like 18-25 years of age, and I was 15 at the time. Also, they probably live in Whitby, while I live in Scarborough.
Nonethless, it was a great experience. I tried something totally outrageous (CAMPING FOR A GAMING CONSOLE LOL? ), i met some very cool people, and I gota wii in time for christmas.
My dad wouldn't believe me when I told him people will be CAMPING for nintendo wii's 12-15 horus before the store opens. He was repeatedly amazed when all the bestbuys we tried were had full lines...but he didn't give up even when I wanted to. Lawl he's a great guy.
So are people still camping for wiis? and do you guys have any camping for wii/other console stories?
Btw, every bestbuy I visited in my hunt had 7-12 wiis...and around 60+ PS3s...with no one in line for them :P
