features space ships that double as fully programmable 6502 emulators. Yes, you can play your favorite Atari 2600 or NES game while you play Notch's game (it's on the game's feature list at 0x10c.com) - but more importantly, all of your ships actions need to programmed in assembly. This could either be crazy or great, but I know I'm on board for the single player version for sure. Multiplayer's going to be iffy though unless those monthly fees are intended to be paid by the server administrator, in which case HI WASDIE HOW ARE YOU. Anyway, Discuss. EDIT: Notch released preliminary specifications on the Assembly Instruction Set for your ship, see http://0x10c.com/doc/dcpu-16.txt

That sounds really niche. Like, it sounds like he better not be putting a huge budget on this thing because it probably won't get Minecraft level sales. That said, the idea sounds really cool.

The 16bit CPU stuff and story concept sound cool, but I don't really care for Minecraft so I'm cautiously optimistic since I'm not sure if he could pull something like that off.

The success of it depends entirely on a community of programmers creating competing "in-game software" package, which is likely as notch is even supporting viruses for competitive play according to his twitter feed, so there's no limit on creativity here.

It's not my thing, but I'm glad to see that there are some really creative developers out there. Not a big chance that lightning will strike twice, but why not give it a shot.

Sounds cool, and the community should help with the learning curve for those of us who don't know sh*t about programming. The only issue is I'm not sure how you make the gameplay compelling without turning it into EVEcraft, and lol EVE.
