Hungary was such a powerhouse back in the 50s/60s. Sad to see a team with so much glory back then, fail to qualify in recent times.

As always England makes a hash out of their group. Despite them winning comfortably against Montenegro, they still got Poland to beat. They should have won their group.

Not surprising really. What Jurgen did was nothing but phenomenal. To re-develop the national team in space of 2 years. Too bad England can't do that. Certainly not in that time frame.

Yeah, but they have been so unlucky in tournaments when they have approached finals and semifinals the last 10 years, so i hope it will change this time and i hope they will win the whole thing this time

For some reason, I think that New Zealand will be more difficult. Mexico really screwed around during these qualifiers.

Happy that England qualified and have even managed to play really well in the last 2 games! There are few teams could live with the way we played in the first half tonight and Townsend in particular looks a very exciting prospect! Hopefully providing he stays fit Hodgson continues to select him in future games. Its good to see the manager giving some young players an opportunity to impress.

That said I still feel we have no chance of winning the tournament but hopefully we'll put on a more impressive showing than at the Euros or the last World Cup. I'd personally be happy if we managed to get past the quarter finals, but the fact we'll only be second seeds could mean we may get a very difficult draw!

What a disgrace Mexico is. They got lucky as hell. It sucks to be Panama right now, what a choke.

While I agree with most of your points, I do feel you have to take into account the quality of opposition. We had a few lucky breaks against a poor Montenegro side, despite playing well and the Dortmund players make Poland sound like a much better team than they actually are.

Agree about Townsend, and its good that Hodgson is having some faith in the youngsters, but again I'd question whether he'd have the same faith against the bigger sides.

As for the tournament itself I'd just be happy if we gave a good account of ourselves, which hasn't happened for a long time. We'll be nowhere near actually winning the trophy. I know nothing about the seeding structure but if what you say about us only being 2nd seeds is true, we'll face a struggle to even get out the group as we'll be guaranteed to face at least one of the big-hitters. I'd imagine some of the 3rd seeds will be decent sides as well and would relish the chance of causing an upset against us.

Arsenal and Bayern Munchen both won their games, and i am really happy. Winning 4-1 against Norwich and Mainz. Özil has to be the best buy this season for any team

Arsenal will inevitably bottle it when the big games come around at the end of the season, Bayern on the other hand are looking awesome and wouldnt be surprised to see them retain the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Excellent win by Arsenal over the weekend. Top quality goals! We have been so consistent since January, that i am hoping and praying there won't be any key injuries for the run-in.

We'll see. Manchester United hasn't been up to par, City has been a little up and down. Tottenham lost to Arsenal without Özil, Liverpool is looking good though and Chelsea has been up and down with their form aswell

I'd go for France, Portugal, Romania and Croatia to qualify. Portgual will have to work hard to go through however and I actually think Iceland could give Croatia a scare or two! They have a couple of decent EPL players in their team (Sigurdsson doing well at Spurs at Gunarsson at Cardiff) and wont want to just roll over. Hopefully most of these games will be on TV when the international break comes as they all look like good matchups!

Looking at club football, I'm surprised to see Arsenal doing so well right now and that first goal against Norwich is definitely the goal of the season so far! I'm not sure they'll keep it up all season though and I think Man Utd will eventually come good, and hopefully Chelsea will become more consistent.

Some great games in the week coming up too, Arsenal/Dortmund, Chelsea/Schalke and Barca/Milan all on tonight, with Real/Juventus on tomorrow, El Clasico on Saturday, and Chelsea/Man City on Sunday it should be a great week for football fans around the world!

Chelsea v Man City was a great game yesterday, as a Chelsea fan I was very happy with the late winner, and it was good to see Torres come good at such an important time. Also everyone said Man Utd had a terrible start but City are only 2 points ahead of them now, and nobody is saying anything about them, and Utd also had a tougher set of fixtures on paper! I definitely think Pellegrini is getting off lightly!
