My suggestion: New Mesiah - Castlevania II Belmont's Revenge or Cease to Exist [Pokey Means Business] from Mother 2/Earthbound.
Journey to Silius on the NES had a killer soundtrack (probably my favorite of all games ever played), you might want to check that out.
Here are some of my favorite retro tunes ;)

If the PSP is a Legacy Platform (which I've come to think):
1. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP) (The Price of Freedom)
2. Valkyria Chronicles 2 (PSP) (Ship Battle)
3. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (PS2) (New York High Stress/JBA HQ High Stress)
4. Tekken: Dark Resurrection (PS2/PSP) (Ground Zero Funk/Snow Castle)
5. DemiKids: Dark Version (GBA) (Battle Theme)
