I've played a couple recently that I really enjoyed... those being Octodad & Stick it to the Man.

However I haven't played Gone Home yet, and it looks like my type of game.

Volgarr the Viking, Papers Please and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

But Volgarr the Viking, most of all; my favorite game of 2013 (haven't played Metro: Last Light... yet)

I don't know what exactly counts as an indie game, but Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is probably as close to an indie game that I've played and really enjoyed.

If you decide to try indie games on the PC, there's Hard Reset and Shadow Warrior from Flying Wild Hog. If you like flight sims, there's Aerofly FS from Ikarus.

Hard Reset and Aerofly FS (I don't have Shadow Warrior yet):

I'm a pretty big fan of Recettear, and To the Moon. Jazzpunk has it's own absurd charm as well.

Limbo is a great place to start with indie games if arent scared too easily. It's not too hard but not too easy.

If you want more of a challenge there is spelunky, but I would only play if you have friends to play with, that's when it gets really fun.

One of my favorite indie games is Ilomilo, but I think it's only on the xbox. It's a puzzle game that starts off very easy and simple, but gradually gets tougher. Great learning curve, and has a nostalgic atmosphere.

@blackember36x: Bastion and Mark of The Ninja are really super awesome. Shank 2 is a pretty cool beat em up. I'm playing Steam World Dig right now.

BROFORCE. ABSOLUTELY, BROFORCE.

Nitronic Rush is probably the only car game I've ever liked. It was a game by some Digipen students.

Ummm... what type of genre do you like? You can't just clump them under the "Indie game"

My favorite game by a really smaller development team has been Hotline Miami although there have been some really great different Indie games.

Thanks to everyone who posted! I'll give them a try and update this with my impressions and which ones I liked when I've played all of them.

As of now, I've played the following-

Limbo : Great game with great, fun and clever puzzles. The spider was freaking awesome. I still haven't finished the game yet though. The art style is awesome too, I love the main protagonist boy with his glowing eyes.

Rogue Legacy : Great game with lots of replay value and motive to replay since there is alot to upgrade. I still haven't defeated the stupid eye boss though, need to upgrade my stuff a bit more. I love the animation style and the different perks each descendant has.

Bastion : A great looking game, love the way the path forms itself when you're walking on it and stuff. Haven'y played alot of it but it's getting a bit repetitive and I don't really like the gameplay that much, There's nothing wrong with it, just not my style.

Spelunky : Another great game, it's like Rogue Legacy because all the maps are randomly generated. Pretty addicting too, like Rogue Legacy, but I think I prefer RL better right now.

Papers Please : Who thought being an immigration officer could be so much fun? I have no idea why it;s fun and oh so addicting but it really is. I've played quite a bit but now it's getting really hard keeping track of(checking) a thousand things, with a time limit too. So I got a bit frustrated, feeling like its more work than play but then again it's a challenge.

Hotline Miami : Absolutely loved it! The music is freaking awesome too. You don't need CoD or any shooter to test your reflexes, just play Hotline Miami! I love the different masks that give you perks too. One of my favorite games now.

Mark of the Ninja : I had no idea this was an indie game... A really great game with a great but sad ending. The gameplay is just too good. The stealth mechanics are awesome. I played a first playthrough just murdering everybody and the another, completely undetected. Of course, it took a bit of time and retries to finish completely undetected, but WORTH IT. That feeling of satisfaction is awesome. Who knew a side scroller could master the stealth genre more than the majority of 3D FP/TP AAA games? A must play for any stealth fan and one of my favorite games ever.

Well thats all the games I've played as of now. What else do you guys think I would like, after readiing my impressions of these games?

Thanks! PS: Don't tell me to play Outlast. Cause I won't. NEVER.

Someone mentioned Basion which i liked, it had nice music, but is Basion an indy game, I thought it was listed as xbox arcade and not indy? If it is... then its quality is about 1000x higher then most indy games i've seen... most are unplayable, unimaginable garbage.

Well if you liked Limbo, I'd say you need to play Braid. It has far more clever puzzles, interesting mechanics and a lovely, calming atmosphere. Its really the game that got me into indies in general and it stands up today as one of the best still.

Minecraft is probably my favourite indie game, if I had to pick one. Its Legos meets I Am Legend meets The Descent and is one of the most addictive and charming games of all-time. Its not for everybody, though.

The Swapper is another *must-play* game if you like Limbo as well. Like Braid, it has interesting mechanics, clever puzzles and a great atmosphere.

And I second the notion of Brothers: A Tale of Two Brothers. Its gorgeous and fun, short and sweet, never outstaying its welcome.

FTL: Faster Than Light is a great little game. It's not puzzle oriented like Braid or Limbo, but it has great replay value and an awesome sound track. Binding of Issac is also fun, the game play is simple, but the story and power ups you get are hilarious and make you want to keep playing. It also has a great replay value. I can understand your aversion to Outlast, I personally can't play it because I pull away from the computer and get killed, however, if you could watch a lets play or perhaps watch a friend play it I would highly suggest it. The story is fantastic and my heart felt like I'd run a marathon at the end. For a game based mostly in story I would try Gone Home, it seems like a horror game at first with the set up, but I promise it's not. The story is fantastic, but the game play is purely just searching for clues.

Hotline Miami. I like a lot of indie games, and not sure what TC meant because there is quite a bit under that umbrella because all it really means is independent. However yeah hands down its hotline Miami.
