Really, why?

Is it supposed to be funny or something?

What is the reason for that? because almost every freaking game out there got a few subliminal messages.

A few games got some scary stuff like in Halo 2. This is nuts.

Why the hell developers doing that?

It's hardly subliminal if the subconscious cannot pick up on it. Reverse and slowed down? How would you pick up on it with your mind?

lol, that's pretty funny. video game conspiracy theories, haha. seriously, dude, this is bull-crap. there's no such thing as hidden messages in games. Why would Bungie put that in a game? Especially backwards in background noise that no one hears? It's not like you could hear it even subconsiously. While humorous, that video is obviously fake.

So where is this abundance of subliminal messages in all these video games? Do you have a list of games that supposedly do this?

No one else can hear those voices... you may want to seek professional help if you live in Europe or Canada. (If you live in the US you might want to start on the cardboard sign)

So...is the one example from Halo 2 all we get? And even if that Halo 2 one wasn't pareidolia, why complain about it? It's there because it's there.

Apparently the subconscious can pick it up. The theory is our mind rewinds, plays backwards and slows down everything we hear. Even then, how much is actually perceived, either above or beneath the treshold of consciousness, depends on the individual.

That said, some people that are looking for drama can convince themselves and others they hear anything in any alleged message and speculate endlessly on its hidden meaning. In this case my idea is they recorded that line to be played normally in the background, since the Arbiter is called an heretic and sinner against god, then they probably thought some mystical gibberish would have been better and reversed it. It happened before

The halo message is actually real but most games don't have them.

If you see the ending of Assassins Creed 2 you will see that it's a part of the story. I won't spoil anything but it's no subliminal mesage.

Perhaps this will ease your paranoid mind:

The effectiveness of subliminal messaging has been demonstrated to prime individual responses and stimulate mild emotional activity. Applications, however, often base themselves on the persuasiveness of the message. The near-consensus among research psychologists is that subliminal messages do not produce a powerful, enduring effect on behavior;and that laboratory research reveals little effect beyond a subtle, fleeting effect on thinking....Research upon those claims of lasting effects...conclude thatthere is no effect beyond a placebo.Wikipedia

I actually learned this in AP Psych also...

Subliminal messages can create a small priming effect, but they are NOT powerful by any means.

What is priming you say? I'll give an example...

Quickly ask these questions to a friend out loud:

1. What do the letters s-h-o-p spell? (They will likely answer "shop.")

2. What do you do when you come to a green light? (If they answer right away, they will likely say "stop.")

So yeah... that's basically the extent of the powers of subliminal messaging. :)

I'm not saying I agree completely, but there have been studies on the subject and, yes, our brain processes a lot more data than we think. This doesn't mean a backmasked message will necessarily influence us, but the brain can pick it up and maybe even interpret it. When it comes to how the brain works there's a lot of speculation. You can easily find more about this on google, explained with better words than the ones I used

There are no subliminal messages in video games.

You know why?

Subliminal messages are illegal. Literally. It is a crime to release any form of media to the public with subliminal messaging. Music, Film or otherwise. Without specifically stating, 'This show/album etc, features hidden messages'.

I've always wondered why those "subliminal messages" always say a bunch of nonsense instead of something that actually serves the product maker, like "buy more copies" or "send us $1000".

Because that wouldn't be as scary and wouldn't rile up conspiracy theorists.

I don't think what the guy said has any truth to it. Nor do I even know if that recording was even real. But I've heard our unconcious is pretty amazing in it's abilities.
