Do you ever get that weird 'heart in the mouth' feeling if your character nearly falls over the edge?

No, I like looking down and jumping off cliffs in FPS games, it's something I always wanted to do back in the 2D era and I'm gonna enjoy it now!

Not really, but it depends what game it is to be honest. If I have climbed to the top in a GTA game, it's just funny to jump off :P. But if it's Assassin's Creed, it's a bit of a weird feeling. But the worst for me is the early Tomb Raider games. This is because there is a lot of jumping about to be done, and sometimes you may accidently jump on to a slope with nothing to grab, so Lara goes "AHH!" for the next 5 seconds :P.

The Saboteur really managed to make me feel queasy when my guy climbed way up to the top of the Eiffel Tower and other structures. I'm playing Assassin's Creed II now and get nothing of the sort; just doesn't feel nearly as realistic.
