It has been years since I have seen a good car combat game come out. I was a Vigilante 8 fan but they're hasn't been a new one since like 1999 or 2000. Twisted Metal hasn't created a good one that can play with 4 people split screen in years either. There are other car combat games out there but none of them are anything special. If anyone knows if a new car combat game is coming out for the Wii or PS3 sometime or if anybody knows anything about a new Twisted Metal or a new Vigilante 8 please post it here.

I read about that on Wikipedia already, I have considered Head-on for the PS2 but unfortunatley its only 2 players.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the company that worked on Twisted Metal the same company that now works on God of War. Yeah, if so, God of War happened to car combat games. I know at least they had the same director..at least Twisted Metal Black did. And that was a truly great game. If this is the case, hope for one now that the God of War trilogy is done. I've been waiting for one on the new systems.

They peaked with Twisted Metal 2 and nobody really knew where to take the genre from there other than give them better graphics.

Mario Kart? Although it is more focused on the racing that the combat but they do have some battle system. But if you are speaking of games like Twisted Metal then it seems that genre has died.

Nice try on this but this is a legitimate discussion topic. He is not looking for a reccomendation but rather to know why they do not exist anymore.

God I miss Vigilante 8. I wish they would stick it in the Wii shop. There was one version released for the Xbox Arcade but I don't have an Xbox 360 and after reading the Gamespot review I don't pay attention to it. I read in Game informer that there is a good chance we might hear something about a Twisted Metal for the PS3.

Good thing to know I wasn't alone on this. Vigilante 8 was one of the games my dad and I enjoyed playing. Twisted Metal was great fun as well. But Twisted Metal Black's character videos were too scary. :(

Racing sims are... sims... Definitely not as fun as skidding around a turn at 120mph, hit a spray of nitro and check some tuner into a hot dog stand! :P

A new Twisted Metal game is in the works for the PS3 (helmed by David Jaffe, who helmed all of the old console games aside from 3 and 4).

Luxoflux, The people that developed the Vigilante 8 games was closed down last month by Activision and some of the people that founded it went on to form Isopod Labs which then created the V8 that is found on XBLA but that game is pretty trashy. There's no hand break button, a limited amount of cars and it's simply just a remake. When looking at the major V8 releases, V8:Arcade is a huge step backwards and a large let down. There will hopefully be news of a new Twisted Metal at E3 Other than that, there's really nothing to look forward too. It seemed that Singletrac who turned into Incog Inc who turned into Eat Sleep Play....and Luxoflux where the only leaders in this genre and now one of them is down and there's nothing else out there to compete with unless your count the XBLA titles such as that crappy v8 remake and ScrapMetal which was just released on XBLA

Yeah because people that like to blow cars up with missles and whose drivers also have a story are the same people like like to drive around curves in a Toyota

I miss Twisted Metal. TMII was one of the best games ever. It's a pity that no other games rised up to the challenge to try and top it. Unlike fighting games were each new one tries to outdo it's rival games, with car combat, they all just gave up :(

I thought the PS2 port of Twisted Metal: Head-On was pretty well done. I'm really hoping we'll finally get to see Twisted Metal PS3 at this year's E3.

I thought the game was pretty good too but I beat it with about 3 characters and my game save became corrupt. I quit playing it after that. in my list of favorites it would be TM2 > Black > Head On ps2 > Tm1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>all the rest

There is also Full Auto for the 360 or Full Auto 2 for the PS3. The reviews on this site are not fair measures of their quality, and they can be gotten for next to nothing these days. Isn't Split Second going to be a car combat game? That looks good.

Twisted Metal 2 was deadly - one of my favourite PS1 games.

See this is one of the Genre's that I feel need to come back and they need to make new frachises not just bring back Twisted Metal (even thought that series is good).

Twisted Metal w/Move control. The possibilities of using a wheel with the Move as your aim/trigger/gun would be nice.
