Everquest, must have paid $250 in boxes and more then $200 in subs. It was worth it, but in the end, I got an ill memory and a poor ending, all because of raiding. I am kinda piss with this experience, not that I regret it, I just regret the devs are soo insisting on ruining the experience of every player who isn't raiding.
CoV/CoH, must have paid $80 in boxes and more then $200 in subs. Totally worth it. No regrets. I don't say the game is perfect, and I did cancel every now and then my sub. But for the fun it brough me, great value.
FF11...must have paid $90 for the single box. Never able to play it. Totally stolen. Square Enix will never get 1 more penny from me, 4 years later; this is totally unacceptable.
I buy all the D&D games at their prime cost except for DDO which I try the beta and runs away (or Dragonshard which I didn't even try), so I guess that would be some money, but I am happy with that.
What is the most expensive game you have ever bought? And was it worth it?LOL, are you serious?
And would you spend that much on a game again?
The most expensive game I've ever bought was Puzzle Quest for the DS...$29.99 brand new.
And no, it wasn't worth the full price. and I would NEVER spend that much on a game ever again.
From now on I stick to Used games under $15. :)summer_star17x
Yes I'm serious.
I don't see the point in buying games full price for 59.99 when I can just buy them for cheap, used,a few years later.
I just got a PS2 last month..
Not counting WoW+15 months of subscription fees, it would be Guitar Hero at $75 and when I found a pristine mint condition used copy of Suikoden II for just over $60 (don't know if the game is still worth that much but it used to go for over $200 easy on ebay). I'm usually not willing to pay more than $50 for a game though and will only fork over $60 if it's an undisputed AAA title.
Yikes, I remember buying
$79.99 for a brand new Top Gear Rally gamefor the N64. Now, years later, I bought the same game used for a few dollars.dog64
Yikes, I remember buying that game. Is that really how much it cost? That was a long time ago. The only good thing about that game was the custom paint job feature.

Chrono Trigger for SNES: $110 Cdn. But thats back in 95', when cartridge games cost a lot of money. That was my big Xmas gift, suffice it to say, my ONLY gift.wacky_sashimi
Yeah that was my most expensive game as well. Where I got mine it was $115. My second was Street Fighter II which was $100. Heck I just recently picked up Guitar Hero III which included the guitar and that was only $89. That one is probably my third most expensive game.
I felt all three games were worth it.

That's how much it cost at my local Sears store. Back then, I didn't go to EB or Gamestop often, so I'm not sure if they sold it for the same price. But I'll assume they did.
I rented the game first before we bought it. I liked it, and so did my older brother, so I guess it was worth it in a way. But I just bought the game again on Ebay for $2.99 plus a few dollar shipping, and it came with the box and instructions. So it didn't hold its value.
Back in 1997 I paid an import store $85 for a Japanese copy of Final Fantasy V. At the time there weren't even translated ROMs for the game yet, and even the half-hearted FFV Playstation port was 5 years away. I was a huge geek for anything Sqauresoft made (boy are those days ever over and dead), and I HAD to have the game. So I ordered it andprinted out a 90 page translation forthe script.
Unfortunately I just got too frustrated towards the end of the game because itwas becoming impossible to keep track of my inventory and skill-set since I couldn't read Japanese. ButIdid havebragging rights as one of the few Americans who had actually played the game so it was pretty much worth it.
Being the big mech fan that I am, it was Steel Battalion for the X-Box for $200. Was it worth it? It was at the time. Capcom promised that the controller would be used for more than one game, which it wasn't, so if I knew then what I know now I probably wouldn't have bought it. It is fun to play from time to time though.
But the biggest buy was Panzer Dragoon Saga mint from E-Bay. It was a lot.....a bit above SB at least.....and I haven't even opened it. It will be worth it in the future unless they re-release it, heh.

$200+ for Marvel vs Capcom 2 PS2 Brand New.I have it for collection, not for use.
The most I've paid for a gameto playis probably Guitar Hero II at $90.

Is it sealed? I saw a sealed one sell for $400+ on Ebay last holiday. If I were you I'd buy a used copy for my personal collection and leave the sealed copy intact.

Yep, sealed and all....not a scratch on it. I'd love to have an open copy, but times are tight. Maybe I could ask for it for X-mas? ;)
I bought Phantasy Star for $79 back in the day.
But the title goes to Ace Combat with the flight stick ($140) and Rock Band ($170).
A guy here in the office bought Steel Battalion for the Xbox for $200.
I remember the old N64 games to be really expensive. Starfox 64 and some other games were $70.00 USD, IIRC.
I never pay more than the MSRP for a game. I normally get my games cheaper than what they cost.
Yep, that's how much carts were. I remember the two big SNES games, Final Fantasy 3 and Chrono Trigger, both selling for $100 CAD.Did SNES and N64 games really cost as much as everyone is listing here?
Wow, I don't remember, but now that I think about, they were pricey.

Some were pretty expensive. And on top of that a lot of retailers didn't have problems marking up games over the MSRP. I remember Software Etc. was notorious for marking up games an extra $5 to $10. Because of that, my new copy of Chrono Trigger was $75.
I guess I don't remember because it was such a long time ago, I wasn't the one buying games at the time. It was always my big brother, my parents, etc. buying them for me.
But I do remember buying Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter II, and Final Fantasy III. But I totally forgot how much I paid for them, LOL!
I don't remember how much N64 games used to cost, but I don't think that they were more expensive than, say, $110 (Aus) for The Witcher Limited Edition.
Still, that's the same price as normal PS3 games here, which is one of the many reasons why I don't own a PS3.
As for a cheapest game (not that anyone is asking), I paid $2 for a retail copy of Gorasul: Legacy of the Dragon at EB, and $0.99 for F-Zero X on Ebay.
