I'm looking for a real awe inspiring game right now something with a powerful story it doesn't matter which console or if it's on PC or not and if you'd like, you  can even post your favorite :)

I can't help but recommend Planescape: Torment (available on gog.com) as it has a well written story and an interesting and engaging cast. The game requires a good amount of reading, though it has bits of good voice acting throughout. Combat isn't the greatest but most of the hostile situations in the game can be avoided through smart dialogue choices(which require good intelligence and wisdom stats).

I am a fan of fantasy and not so much si-fi. However, I found Mass Effect 1-3 to have the best story line. You can import your character throught the series, and the choices you make impact the story through the series. Also Dragon Age: Origins is highly recommended. Dragon Age 2, not so much.

Oblivion - add some mods and you have a new story added. if you like horror survival there is the Ashen Rose mod.

Fallout New Vegas best storyline of the series.

Kotor and Kotor II still look very good and have excellent stories.

if you have a PS2:

I highly recommend any of the Shadow Hearts games they all have great stories with alternate history and

SH:From the New World in particular has a fantastic sense of humour.

any of the PS2 Final Fantasy games are fun especially FF VII and VIII were good.

FFXII was good and also VERY pretty looking - much better graphics than even FFX and X-2 both games I also liked.

and not to forget the Xenosaga series - there are three games all of which are quite good.

and starring KOS-MOS

Episode I der Wille sur Macht

Episode II Jenseits von Gut und Böse

Episode III Also Sprach Zarathustra

there are many more RPGs out there but I only recommend the ones I know from having played myself.

I'd reccomend Xenoblade or Radiant Historia. both have fantastic stories.  Or if you're really ambitious, check out Knights in the Nightmare. Best story this gen IMO.

The Witcher (and the Witcher 2) has one of the most immersive universes, some of the most well-written stories, and some of the most interesting characters of any game I've ever played. Not to mention the combat is fun and deep and there is a good amount of challenge, I would highly recommend this series to any fan of RPG's.

now I can also add Kingdom of Amalur:Reckoning

a good storyline and a very pretty world - it reminds me of a combination of Elswyr Forest and Darkwood from World of Warcraft.
