So from the little we know so far, it takes at least two minutes to load the PS Now up. Will this annoy you if you have to wait two minutes to load it up?

  • Authorizing: 8 Seconds
  • Testing Connection: 15 seconds
  • Loading Game: 21 seconds
  • Further Loading on Black Screen: 32 seconds
  • Warning Splash Screen: 4 seconds
  • Setting up Trophy Data: 12 seconds
  • Sony Splash Screen and Loading Animation: 25 seconds

Total loading time: 117 seconds.

I miss the old days when we just put the game in the console, click power, play game!

Not the cartridge systems. You literally pressed power and were playing the game.

I already have to wait around that same amount of time to get into most games proper, so... no problem here.

There were no loading times, not even on the N64. There couldn't be: cartridges are literally circuit boards slotted into the system, an extension of it. There were menu transitions at best, though those were there by design.

I'm afraid technology goes backwards in some regards: new technologies have their drawbacks.

There are still games that still do that, but big games still have their cons

Waiting 2 mins is pretty good.

This is a rental service after all. 2 mins sure beats driving to the video store, or waiting for mail from Gamefly.

Heck, it can take me up to 15 minutes to find games I own in my physical collection sometimes.

This reminds me of Sega Channel. Took a few minutes to load into the games, but couldn't beat the price and convenience.

It could be faster if you have a really good connection

I'm.....I routinely wait a few minutes when I put in a disc for it to boot up. Not to mention all the loading times throughout.

For some reason I don't think this'll be a problem.

More worried about lag. I am skeptical that this system will be usable for multiplayer. We shall see.

I'm more surprised it's up and running so soon after announcing the Beta.

The guy that uploaded the footage also said his home connection isn't very good (5Mbps Down 1Mbps Up) and on his connection there's no perceptible latency, he even played some DOA against an online opponent and said it was perfectly playable. The only issue he had was on his home connection every now and again video artefacts were present in the stream but he also tried it on a friends much quicker connection where he said it looked exactly like playing off a disc.

Now that sounds promising but things like latency are dependent on how many hops you are from the server so everyones experience will be different, but it is promising that it's working at all at this stage.

Oh yeah and signing the client out of PSN and logging the server in as the gamer so they get their trophies, saves and friends lists etc is a really nice touch.

I dunno. I mean I get why so many people cite Backwards Compatibility as an important feature. It's easy to understand why. But it's just not something I care much about, especially in regards to the PS4. I'm really only interested in the new games that I can only play on my PS4 or X1. If I could use the discs in the new machines, it might be a handy enough feature. But a service where I have to subscribe? Not really interested in that.

Unless it's a new feature of the PSN I'm already paying for, I can't see myself getting excited for this regardless of how fast or slow it happens to load.

Yeah they haven't announced any pricing plans yet.

Backwards compatibility might not seem like a great new feature because it adds old games to the line up but being able to play the previous games in a series when a sequel comes out or whenever it takes your fancy is not something to just overlook. And while you might be only interested in "new" games for the Xb1 and PS4, you might have noticed there's not exactly a tonne of software either released now or in the near future for either that's worth a damn.

I read this as 2 minutes to download it instead of 2 minutes for it to start up. I guess that's not bad, so long as there's no disruptions when you get to playing. But waiting 2 minutes each time isn't bad. It's definitely among the least of my concerns with this.

It depends on the connection though, so if you have a good connection, you might get better times

not as many drawbacks as old technologies tho.

in the spirit of this thread and ur comment i feel compelled to state that "sim ant" on snes took 2 mins to save (and i imagine there are other examples of this), it may not be loading but its still making me wait.
