Poll Opinions regarding single player driven game in 2018 (67 votes)

I love them 90%
I prefer multiplayer games 6%
I have no opinion 4%

Made a poll regarding this as gamer has started to accept the reality of games as service. All games listed to condition gamers to accept the model, many upcoming games have started to get some recognition for their amazing services like;

Sea of thieves

Anthem

The Division

Destiny 2

Crackdown 3 (probably, its microsoft)

Rainbow Six Siege

Xbox Game pass

Also rejoice, EA, Square enix, ubisoft, activision and Phil Spencer of xbox fame will make sure to deliver more on games as services in the near future.

So back to the question of this poorly made intro, what do you think of single player games. Do you like the single player model model or do you prefer multiplayer, squad based game?

to be clear, none of the game you listed remotely interest me, but in the single player space there has been plenty of wonderful options

I like them although sometimes I wish to I could take on the adventure with friends more often as opposed to just stuff like overwatch. And with voice chat I'd be able to hear their reactions to events in the game.

I prefer single-player.

MP has its place, but I've just never enjoyed it as much.

Looking at the poll right now it may seems mny still enjoys single player games but multiplayer games the ones that sold the most and brings in more fun. Are you guys really enjoying single player games or you just dont want backlash?

what do you mean 'dont want the backlash'?

and how does income earned by a company make 'fun' not subjective?

Both are satisfactory to me so long as I enjoy the gameplay.

Enjoying a game for its raw functions and refinement before cosmetic and artistic qualities to me is the most important. I don't mind those other things, as an added layer, so long as they don't take centre stage, or bloat-out the experience.

single player games are the real video games.

Multiplayer Online stuff is just commercial garbage for ADHD kids who have no idea what real video gaming is all about.

Be told.

I think my tastes have come back full circle. I played and enjoyed some MP games in the past. Recently, the gamers and aspects of the games themselves have absolutely ruined the online experience for me. If a game is online MP only, it's now a hard pass for me. I'll stick to single player games.

I love both single player and multiplayer games the same. I voted for the first choice because the other two options wouldn’t adequately represent my opinion.

My thoughts exactly.

It's a weird poll. Many Gamers like variety, and jump between multiplayer and single player experiences.

SP games will always be my favourite type of game... simple as that. I rarely play MP games.

That's why it's encouraging for me that MS invested in studios that are known for SP games, such as Ninja Theory and Compulsion.

Singleplayer over MP games for me 99 percent of the time for me these days. The 00's where my MP golden years before shitty microstractions the good old times of going on vent waiting for your clan mates to join your dedicated server those days can never be topped in terms of games and the way the world was back then. Less political BS it was a fun atmosphere that I think is impossible recreate today.

While i do play my fair share of MP games every now and then i will always prefer what the SP games offer me as experiences(the good ones at least).

That's why i'm kinda disappointed that Fallout 76 ditched it's SP origins for a online-only mode. Fallout is a franchise that i love and i would find myself dwell into it's world and get lost for hours in every single game of the series. Heck i even downloaded Shelter on my Switch and i'm having quite a lot of fun as of now. But with Fallout 76 turning into a shared-world kind of game i can say it's the first entry in the main series that's i'm not interested into and the first one i won't be getting day one.

Single player games will never fade away. But, I just don't like where video games are going these days (single player games are trying too hard to be like Hollywood movies) Does multiplayer has it's place in video games? Oh yeah. But, I'll always roll with single player games.

I don't like the direction Bethesda are headed with fallout 76 taking out the single player. My worry is other Devs could go the same way if its a success.

I never play multiplayer games. I play exclusivesly single-player games. I'm aware many single-player games have MP-components like GTA, Uncharted etc. but I never play them. I like the solo experience of exploring a game on my own.

I want a better mix on the Xbox interesting to see the direction they are going with gears 5. It seems more story driven than previous installments in the series.

I love single player games.

I started playing on the nes, master system and 386 pc.

For me single player is what videogames are all about.

I really don't care about competitive games or multi-player games with toxic communities...

I had my fill of multiplayer games when I was younger. I don't 100% avoid it, but I'd much rather enjoy a SP game than a MP one any day. I know SP is here to stay and all, but I do see MP becoming more and more prevalent, even with franchises that are normally SP *cough* Fallout *cough*. And I don't like that it makes sense seeing as the most financially successful games usually have a lot of focus on multiplayer.

@sakaixx: what do you mean by "services" in your original post?

I hear that word and I cringe, I just don't feel big gaming companies can provide much of a service. Have you ever had one of their products fail and try to get support? It's an ordeal. Now apply that ordeal to simply just trying to play one of their games since it's a service. Seems like another term used so they can keep you hooked instead of just offering you a product and letting you go.

As to the question, I'm incredibly stoked about all the singleplayer offerings. I've enjoyed online gaming since 1997 way back when we still used dial up, but for the most part I've always felt that good games have strong singleplayer, while multiplayer is more of an added feature.

Obviously this has changed with the advent of strong multiplayer-centric games such as Overwatch, Battlefield, and so forth, but I feel that a lot of developers hop on this bandwagon to, as stated above, provide a service that slowly bleeds people dry as they dole out content slowly. Why offer something for $60 immediately when you can get $120 out of them over a couple years by forcing them to stay online, and stay current with DLC so they can play with friends?

I love Single Player, story-driven experiences.

I alos like MP games, but not they type you have listed. I prefer things like Factorio and Supreme Commander.

Multi-player games tend to focus on you increasing your skill on the same gameplay scenario.

I don't really have patience for that and they usuly have 0 story.

I much prefer to have a game that takes place in a beautiful crafted virtual world and takes me on a journey and touches me emotionally with a great story and great characters.

I've had fun playing single player games, but always end up going back to multiplayer games. I will say that, I enjoy single player games more, even though I play them less. Games like Borderlands and Halo where you can do either or have always appealed to me since it's almost like two experiences to a degree and you get to compare with someone in real time.

Playing single player games can get a little lonely and AI are not so great during gameplay. I think shared world is pretty great, you can play alone but there are players that can help you during non-instanced fighting. Instanced fighting is whole different thing.

Also, I used to play mmo so I don't really mind shared world as long it makes sense.

I favor mainly SP games, but I also don't mind MP games with the option to play alone - or the other way round. Actually my favourites still are SP games with the option to coop online.

Still went for the pure SP answer in the poll, even though the poll itself is extremely weirdly written - It doesn't represent my opinion at all. What about being okay with both?

Personally, I have always preferred single-player (with some occasional multiplayer now and then). I like a game to have an ending, whereas multiplayer is a boundless loop of repeated gameplay systems with very little communication between the game and the player. It's all starting to feel very impersonal.

Also, with the continued practices of milking consumers through "live services", single-player is, for now at least, the safety area from which to avoid such soulless acts. So until the day that single-player becomes irrelevant (which is definitely not soon), I am more than happy to remain exclusively solo-based.

I want a single player warthunder though... I'm half joking on this one guys.

All half jokes aside, other than playing Warthunder, I pretty much play only single player games. I may dabble a bit, like I did with Battlefield I and Fortnite on the PS4, but that's about it.

I definitely wish there were more story-focused games. Multiplayer is fun and a great addition to most games, but recently I've found it's almost always added to the detriment of the singleplayer.

I love multiplayer games and have turned sour towards single player games. Have been playing State of Decay 2 and yet I love it. Also gave about an hour and a half into Farcry 5 single player and I praised that. But my true love for vg has been multiplayer games like Battlefield 1,Halo:MCC, Rocket League. Play appropriate 95% multiplayer.
