I don't have numbers or anything to back me up but I'd have to say Western. Read Dead Redemption was such a breath of fresh air, I mean you can count the good Western games on one hand. What do you think, which Genre is pretty uncommon to get a new title, or more importantly which Genre would you like to see expand?

Western is a setting and a theme but not a genre.

I say a tactical is the most uncommon.

Space Combat games, like Wing Commander, Tie Fighter, etc. There are some underground games, but overall, the genre's pretty dead.

Simulators in general. Be it space flight (c'mon, a new Freespace please!), normal flight (Microsoft has a new one coming out, but from Apache to Ace Combat the ones we have now are pretty arcadey compared to the old ones), and mech. Though the only one I can think of is Mechwarrior so... in other words Mechwarrior 5 needs to hurry up.

Other than that, survival horror is pretty rare. Dead Space may be my favorite franchise this generation but survival horror it is not.

I'm not really sure, but Survival horror games are getting pretty rare now aren't they?

And yeah Western isn't a genre.

'Proper' survival horrors are a dying breed that I'd like to see resurrected (Ironic perhaps) Space sims seem to have vanished off the face of the Earth. TIE Fighter and Freespace 2 are probably some of the best games I've played in my lifetime, bring them back! Adventure games had gone away but thankfully have made something of a comeback recently.

Okay! Okay! Western isn't a genre... The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is an Action/Drama, but I will always call it and others like it a Western.

Western is a subgenre of film because films are classified according to themes and methods of storytelling. Western isn't a genre of games, though, because games are classified according to mechanics.

Just a few on the top of my mind: 3rd person\RTS hybrids, last one I played was Rise and Fall (fun game). Space sims (like Freespace and such) Tactical games (SWAT and the proper Rainbow Six games) Stealth games (real stealth were going in guns blazing is not an option) Thinking about it now, most of the uncommon genres I can think of are these great complex ones which actually required you to use you're brain, has the gaming world gotten that simplified and mainstream?

Roguelike games, you never see any mainstream ones of those, probably because they're so hard!

Most of the good stuff is dead or dying these days... It's all about shooters now. Some claim to have RPG elements which I always find hilarious. I'd love to see horror games make a comeback someday

  • Space/flight sims (or just plain arcade flight)
  • Tycoons
  • Pure stealth
  • True survival horror
  • Adventures (might be wrong on this actually)
  • Mech sims

The most uncommon genre? Anything that's almost completley unique and ground breaking.

Point and Click Adventure games and the next being simulators.Vexx88

I swear I was just going to say Point and Click games! The genre died out in the 90s and I would love to see an honest attempt by any developer to try to make one that'll rejuvenate the genre. Those were (somewhat) fun back in the day.

No including the recent resurgence? The return of Monkey Island and Sam & Max. Not to mention Back to the Future, Strongbad, and Wallace & Gromit.

LOLwut? You don't need to take aggressive actions in Halo unless they are completely necessary.

Where combat is not encouraged, except as a last resort and there are better alternatives to it.
