I am horrible at lockpicking in ES4: Oblivion. Does anyonehave any pointers they would care to share?

I'd recommend getting the unbreakable lockpick from Nocturne's shrine. You can never fail after that.

its a chore... practice A LOT...

or learn a spell or do the Nocturnal quest...

Its easy, move your mouse, then move it up, only click the mouse when it slowly goes down (like really slowly), if it instantly goes down, don't click and push up again, repeat.

^^ Once you get the hang of the timing, it's fairly easy...but it's easier to just get the unbreakable lockpick at hit the Auto button.

I found that after the pin thing drops quickly it will usually drop slowly on the next attempt. So I usually wait for that to happen.

Yeah, that's the best no-fail policy, granted you get it. Practice makes perfect, really. If you do it the manual way, it's all about timing. The way I've noticed it goes is

There is a timing to it. Once you figure it out you can pick the highest level locks with 5 skill. It shows how broken the skills are in Oblivion. :(

or you could get a very weak lock picking spell and shoot a door for a hour, then when you max out go buy the big spell...thats usualy waht i do lol
