I downloaded Final Fantasy 6 for iOS almost a year ago but never really played it. I'm big on graphics in a game and that is why I haven't played but all the reviews say it's a great game and that the story is great.
Is it?
Yes I believe that it is although playing the iOS version might not be quite as enjoyable as playing on a console.
It's definitely my favorite Final Fantasy game, and the best turn based role playing game that I've ever played.
I have never played the snes version but I've got a vita. Was thinking of downloading 6 off psn but I've read some complaints about loading times and censorship (!), is that true? Will the loading times bug me if I've never played the snes version?
Well you're not going to like it if you care about graphics that much, but to me it's one of the best games ever made.
It's an SNES era JRPG. For what it's worth, it's one of the better ones. However, if you're an adult it won't have much in the way of any appeal, it's a kid's game that was designed for kids. It has no strategic depth. It's laughably easy. The gameplay largely consists of repeating the same ridiculously easy fights over and over. It has no challenge and requires no thought. I loved it when I was 13. It's unplayable now that I'm in my 30s.
@LuminousAether: The combat *is* relatively easy, but it's also really fun - especially when you start playing around with weirder combinations of characters.
Anyway, people don't really play the game for its combat. The combat is fine, but it really excels in its characters, stories, music and scope. It's opera, and it's fantastic. It might be my favourite JRPG, it's arguably the best in the FF series, and it's as good now as it was 20 years ago
But the combat is the vast majority of the game. You will spend most of your time in combat.
Story cannot overcome gameplay flaws to me. Gameplay trumps story and then some.
In my opinion, it is the best of the holy trinity of JRPGs that came out for the SNES: Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound. All three of these games are a blast and have awesome and unique stories. FF6 with its crazy Joker-like villain and violent mischief, Chrono Trigger for the time traveling, and Earthbound for its charming humor and fast fights (compared to the other two).
Lol, me too. I got a bunch of old SNES games for my phone but haven't played any of them... couldn't get past the pixely graphics
@jonpt15:
Like Final Fantasy 7, 6 can't live up to the pedestal fans have put it on. The story is overwhelmingly simple, the combat system is standard at best and the characters are extremely shallow. To anyone who just picks it up out of curiosity, prepare to be disappointed.
The music is still awesome though but after trying this for the first time, I can honestly say that Final Fantasy 6 isn't all its cracked up to be. Same with 7. They are overly hyped games that just didn't age well.
Its good for when it was made. Its obviously not good by todays standards cause it has really old graphics and is fairly linear. But the storyline still holds up and thats the most important part. The combat though is pretty basic, but addictive to play as any game is that lets you level up.
Plus you play as a female main character that isn't a skimpy clothed dumb ass airhead like the ones in later FF games.... (looking at you FF13 and your god awful female characters, 5 minutes of Lightening or Sarah will make you wish for death)
