My friend let me borrow his FFXII Collectors Edition...I don't want to start playing it and get far and then have to give it back to him, buy the game myself (non-collectors) and not be able to start up on the collector's save.

Long story short, can you put it the regular copy and play the save from the collectors?

Don't flame, I think it's a legit question...

I went from original to collectors for Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1 and there seemed to be no issue?

Never tried it on PS2 through...

There's no change in the core game between the 2 versions, is there? In the collectors edition you only get extra dvd's or something so it should work just fine.

Its the same game, it just has a different face and it comes with a second dvd with bonus material on it.
