A Doom RPG reference, perhaps?

I concur with your insight on this matter. I quite literally shiver in dismay when I spy ghastly misspelling such as 'it's' instead of the adjective 'its' or 'they're' instead of 'their'. Alà s, we do dwell in an illiterate wasteland, my friend, and we stand alone, like scarce oases of erudition in such a dry, unreceptive land. And now please help me climb off this particularly high horse.

Not to be a jerk, but, technically, plethora should be used to describe an overabundance, overfullness (not a real word, I know; but my thesaurus used it in its usage entry on plethora, so... yeah) or excess (in other words, a more fancy way of saying "too many"); not as a general catch-all for many or plenty or what have you. Just a heads-up.

To be fair, mistaking its for it's (and they're for their) or vice versa is really easy to do if you don't pay close enough attention. I know I've made those mistakes plenty of times before. Unless you're talking about people who use one or the other knowing they're incorrect but don't care; in which case, yeah -- those people are terrible. Terrible, I say!

Terrible, I say!I'm sure we all make plenty of spelling errors, the difference is some take time to find them and correct them, so not to make them again. Unfortunately that's quite uncommon behavior. About plethora, I wonder if the word 'vocabulary' could be stretched the fit the definition of synecdoche, thus becoming a figure of speech of sorts, standing for an abundance of words, compatible with plethora, despite the latter being strictly quantitative.c_rake
Man, it sure is windy on top of this high horse.

I don't see why not. English is already a pretty flexible language, after all. The fact that there's no universal standard on, well... anything says a lot about that, I think. There wouldn't be so many different style guides out there if such standards were established.
Also, I love how easily we completely derailed this thread with a discussion on language. Only on General Games Discussion would this be possible.

At least the level of language reached a pinnacle of greatness, Instead of derailing into sub standard spelling and grammatical errors. :P
Honestly I would still play skyrim if it was like that haha

You should play Skyrim regardless, unless you want me to go to Ireland and make you regret it! I'm checking plane ticket prices as we speak! >_At least the level of language reached a pinnacle of greatness, Instead of derailing into sub standard spelling and grammatical errors. :Pseanmcloughlin
I'd have locked the thread in an instant if that was the direction we were headed.

Oh, man -- he means business! Better watch out, sean!
On a related note, I should check out Skyrim too one of these days (when I have the time to devote to a game of that scale, that is).

Don't bother. Locking a thread just because the participants are using subpar spelling and grammar isn't a justifiable cause for locking something anyway. (If only, though... if only...)

I purposefully delayed for the free shipping because I had to do college work. So now most is done and tomorrow night I am heading into Skyrim to say goodbye forever.
