There are plenty of games I played growing up that I just can't touch because I'm too critical now. Beyond just some games being for kids, like Freddy Fish or Kung Fu Panda, I have extremely fond memories of playing the Bionicle video game on the PS2 as well as the campaign for Blazing Angels on the 360 and loving it all, but just can't see myself revisiting at the risk of tainting memories of my youth.

One thing for me was Kingdom hearts... I loved KH 1 and 2 as a youngster, but for whatever reason I found the KH3 E3 trailers to be extremely underwhelming. That's not to say I 100% won't give it a try, but at this point I'm actually very undecided.

Resident Evil 2 not a fan of limited ink ribbons and tank controls it was fine for 98 but today I just don't have the patience for it luckily RE2Remake will fix these issues.

Mercenaries

Freedom Fighters

Time Crisis

Panzer Front

Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire

Jet Set Radio

Goldeneye

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they would all still be fun even today. I just much prefer keeping the fond memories I had with them so many years ago remain unspoiled.

The only game I can't go back to is Goldeneye, the controls are god awful. This goes for a lot of early console fps games.

@vfighter: I think going back to play any N64 games is going to pretty weird controls-wise really, after we all have been so used to two analog sticks over the years. :D

One game I can't go back to playing is Donkey Kong 64. That game did not aged well at all. But I can however go back to playing N64 games but Donkey Kong 64 isn't what it used to be.

I'm a Retro gamer and I can tell you I have no issues replaying Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and just to name a few N64 games and I'm good at adapting to different controllers anyway.

You are a true gamer then. ? Overcoming the controls to enjoy old classics is probably worth the initial confusion I guess. Might give it a try myself, if they do end up releasing the N64 mini!

I hated Halo when it dropped because I couldn't side step with buttons. I was so used to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark that my hands just did not want to adapt to the multi stick method. We played Timesplitters in my house. Could map the buttons however you wanted. Now I couldn't imagine playing without 2 sticks. I need to dust off my 64 and see if I could still do it.

Yeah I guess it's just a case of being able to adapt to different control layouts, after years of muscle memory. The setup with modern tvs is probably a bigger hurdle for me than the controls actually. Not having a proper CRT tv doesn't do the old games justice most of the time. It's nice to see so many retro remasters these days though!

Oh and Timesplitters was kickass also, forgot about that one. ?

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Assassin's Creed II. Loved those games but they came out at a time where open-world action-adventure games was still early in their development.

A lot of the early GTAs. I have a lot of fond memories of Vice City and San Andreas in particular but the clunky shooting and the graphics/physics hold them back for me.

I would like to add Battlefield 2 but it's not because the game is not as good as I remember. It's because there isn't many servers left and the ones that are there are not that great and my weapon unlocks are gone ever since gamespy shutdown. Also the player count is bad the golden years of BF2 is dead it's a shame cause I rather play BF2 then any current BF game.

Been playing Vietcong recently and it's just fine. Especially when you compare the campaign to more modern military shooters which are a joke.

Plus it has more realism (high bullet damage, no health regen, ect..) which makes it more intense, similar to tactical shooters in that regard.

Oblivion on the other hand......was never good.

Pretty much anything from the N64. At the time it blew my mind but now the control are terrible and the visuals are mud. The only one that still looks great is Mario Kart 64. Wing Commander 1 is another. Story is great but the combat is so choppy.

yea part of me knows this, but I played it when I was like 12 or 13 and I didn't know what good games were and I loved it at the time. still have fond memories of it.

I play RS2 Vietnam now for my realistic vietnam fix, good to hear that Vietcong hasn't aged too badly. I loved that game in its day

I think Skyrim has aged terribly...

Goldeneye N64 is still good for the nostalgia kick and to play multiplayer with friends, but to play it seriously is hard work, same with the original Tomb Raiders and pretty much any racing game (Gran Turismo, etc)

I agree with the Skyrim comment. I always try to go back to it once a year or so and I always get less than 20 hours in and just lose interest or sight of what I'm doing and the game doesn't compel me enough to keep going like it did back in the day.

Completely agree about Assassin's Creed II, but Sands of Time is a linear adventure/platormer that hasn't aged a day if you ask me.

I know the controls are absolute trash, and I won't tarnish the nostalgia.

First generation Pokemon games. They aged extremely poorly. Just going back to the PC box system with all of the loading is nauseating. Also, I never want to play a Pokemon game with only the original 151 ever again. That includes LGP/E, yes.

Fortnite surprisingly. I liked it at first despite the fact at being shit at it, but then after a while when everybody started hyping about it I kinda wanted to find a game that wasn't the conversation of every teenager my age around. So thats what I did. (Might have something to do with the fact that I was never good at the genre, despite how much I practiced, but still, it got boring.)
