Games that you look back on as a waste of time

Hey all,

What games have you spent a lot of time with and maybe even been obsessed with, but look back on as a total waste of time?

For me it must be Animal Crossing:Wild World on the DS. That game is so manipulative, it makes you thinkthat doing repetitive and boring tasks like pulling out weeds, chasing butterflies, etc will bring some sort of satisfaction eventually, but it NEVER EVER EVER DOES. It dangles a NONEXISTENT CARROT in front of your face.

Animal Crossing: Wild World is all front, no substance. It hypnotizes you with it's mellow music and cute characters, but offers next to nothing in terms of an actual GAME.

For me it is all games, that's why I play them.

Though, I played with friends a few times and my grades didn't drop, so it didn't hurt too much.

GTA SA-MP, i look back and i really don't know what i saw in it...

I got to level 26 in maplestory. That game is so dumb.

World of Warcraft. I spent hundreds of hours doing nothing of note, in hindsight.DJ_Lae

Im going to say it... Metal Gear Solid 4: I don't know how did I got through the whole game, 20 hours of pain.

I don't regret my experiences with most games.

The only time truly get upset is if a really powerful character gets deleted.

This thread made me experience a revelation. I'm always complaining how I don't feel the urge to play a bunch of single player games of late, only playing if I have a co-op buddy or if my friends can join me in a multiplayer match. I'm trying to think of any time that I've truly wasted, but I'm chalking it all up to quality time with friends, rather than wasted time with video games.

I never poured hundreds of hours into a MMO to grind. I've probably played Saints Row 2 the most, but a good chunk of that time was spent playing with a friend. I haven't touched SC2's single player 'cause if my friends are already online, I'd rather jump into a multiplayer match with them.

Pretty much all MMO's I've played.

Some games I feel this way about are:

Resident Evil 4 ( Not really long to play through but by the time I had beaten it 4+ times to unlock everything plus Mercanaries, I was looking at 40+ hours)

Mario Kart Wii (Sure it was fun, but you never really accomplished anything)

Runescape

Many various Wii Games

Star wars episode III Revenge of the sith bought it to get a early look on the movie.

I really enjoyed it.

I see Farmville as a waste of my past time.

when i look back, all games for me were a waste of time. that is what they are for me, but i play them because i have othing better to do in that time (or nothing better i WANT to do)

Runescape and Ragnarok Online. I've said at least three times that I will never play RO again, and I hope I never have to say it again...

Mafia 2 for me. I kept playing expecting to get to the good part but got to the credits instead.tehpiecemaker

Haven't played Mafia 2 yet (I am waiting for the bargin bin on that one) but I love that quote.

Finding Nemo. The game sucks.

I put way more time in New Vegas than I should have. It doesn't help that the game pissed me off after I put so much time into getting certain factions to like me, only to not being able to use them to my advantage in the endgame just because my speech level was not high enough. What a waste.

Agreed. I played up to the last disc, hoping it'd get better, but it was an utterly crap game.

World of Warcraft pre-LFG channel/interface. Nothing quite like standing around in Ironforge for 3 hours trying to get a group for something. When I sum up the amount of time I've spent playing that game I die a little on the inside.

Gears of War. Hated all the characters, hated the story, hated the setting, but I powered through it expecting something awesome since everybody else seemed to like it. Absolutely no payoff, and I hated the multiplayer too.

Isn't absolutely everything we do (including every game we play) a waste of time at the end of the day?:P

Anyway, back on topic, I definetly see The Simpsons Skateboarding a huge waste of time. I didn't play it that much, but every second I did play of it yielded no progression or satisfaction whatsoever.

I wasted my time with Clive Barker's Jericho. It was so difficult and annoying, yet I still was not going to give up. But in the end I wasted my time with it. Same with Turok, the only game that I've never finished once I've started.

EVE online. Even though I only played for 2 weeks, it's 2 weeks that I regret wasting.

There are so many things that were fundamentally screwed up in that game. I can't believe that they make you fight the last portion of the game solo after you finally got some cool gear and abilities for your allies. Or how there are hours long stretches where you're just running around doing boring tasks with no combat. Or how you can't even choose your party members for long portions of the game.

It's an rpg, but as soon as you get the ability to develop your characters much, the game ends. I especially liked how a variety of items drop in the rooms before the last boss. You get to use them once, yay!

Every MMORPG I've ever played, including Maplestory and Runescape. MMORPGs are the worse time wasters; they're so repetitive, yet so addictive.
