I think they are long overdue. The hardware is very out of date and it is really holding gaming back.

I'm perfectly content with the current consoles. Great games can still be developed with the current hardware. If I wanted my games to be as advanced as possible I'd be gaming on PC.

NO FAIR ! I just got my xbox this year. But i gues since gameplay ideas are drying up then upgrading the hardware is the only way to go. And when the hell is Quantic Dream gona port Heavy Rain to Xbox ? Come On, Cage !

Not sure how many of these threads I posted in on the last week, but I'm impartial. I used to want them until I realized I have like 20 games still to play on PS3/360, and more coming this year to add to the list. It's been a amazing ride and I could ride this gen another year or 2 easily. I know lots of people (mostly PC players) are worrying way too much about the future though.

I just want them to come out so people will finally shut the hell up about them. I'm really just tired of hearing about the speculations and allegations. Start showing me some games to get excited for or shut up.

There really is no need for a new console generation yet...people are always quick to say that the current hardware is 'outdated' yet the PS2's lasted more than 10 years. If it can last that long, why can't the current gen consoles?

I am quite content with my PS3, so I personally don't need anything new for awhile.

Yea, kinda. I mean, I won't be buying them probably for at least a year after launch, but somehow I just have no interest in turning my PS3 on again. Sure, I may eventually go replay MGS4 or Valkyria Chronicles, but I'm just playing on PC now. There's only been one game in the past six months that hasn't come to PC that I wanted. I'm ready for a change of scenery. If they forget the "gaming" part of the next consoles like they did this gen, I may not even get one ever.

No, I'm content with what I have, and even if they do release new consoles, I'll stick with what I have and play the ton of games I haven't gotten around to yet.

I'm more than prepared for the advancement in technology that the consoles will bring with my PC(since we aren't gonna get much farther until some new damn consoles).

They could wait 5 years to come out with the next gen consoles and it would be fine with me. I'm perfectly happy with the graphics and processing power of today's consoles - they've provided me with numerous hours of enjoyable gaming. I don't care about improved graphics any more than I care if a movie is on Blu ray or DVD - it's about the quality of the content, not the number of lines of resolution.

I could be having a stupendous time gaming right now if it weren't for the fact that most games are sequels - because sequels make more money - and most games need to be like Call of Duty - because Call of Duty makes more money. If it's just going to be this same crap next gen, I may very well skip it altogether.

The only system I care about is WiiU and I'm not even 100% sold on that. But my experiences with PS3 and Xbox 360 have definitely soured my taste for Sony and Microsoft consoles. I feel like this entire generation has just been a blur of firmware updates and nickel-and-diming and I'm not expecting that trend to slow.

This generation has been a complete letdown for quality jrpgs so I doubt there will come much else so yeah, I am ready. I am ready to start with the new generation and hope jrpgs will play a bigger role this time.

No, I'm having fun with my PS3, and I could for many more years. There are still quite a few games I haven't gotten around to... The rumors I've heard about next gen consoles haven't gotten me excited in the least, and I don't have the money for them anyway. Right now, I'm most interested in getting the 3DS and Vita, that's next gen enough for me.

The current generation consoles could go a little bit further for me. Though new consoles would be great.

To be honest yes I am ready for the new wave of gaming consoles. It's cool Sony and Microsoft were able to extend the life of their respective consoles, but I think for the most part people are ready for something new. Games in terms of hardware aren't gradually updated like their PC counterparts. The graphics look great still, I think it is time to move on. Honestly I have been pretty disappointed with this generation-- a lot of rehashes, and not enough new games. I hope game developers will create more franchises. Sorry but CoD is getting old!

I'm sorry, but I think they are building the next gen consoles with milking in mind so with the new consoles everything would probably get worst! I hope not, but that's what I think. They need to add a least 2 gigs of RAM. Current consoles could actually produce better graphics if they just had RAM.

Who just said in this forum recently they were annoyed by the same topics over and over? lol This one has been done to death.

For the record, NO, I am perfectly fine with this gen for another 5 years at the very least and possibly longer.

Agreed. There is far too much content available today, to keep me satisfied for 10-15 years. And it will, as I have no plans to get a PS4 until 5 is out and is at a great price.

What will these new consoles do that will be worth the $400 (or more)?

PS3 Plays PS1 discs, PS2 discs, PS3 discs, PSN games, PS1 Classics, PS2 Classics, and PSP Minis.

Wii plays Gamecube discs, Wii discs, and Virtual Console games.

GBA plays Gameboy carts, Gameboy Color carts, Gameboy Advance carts.

3DS plays DS cards and 3DS cards.

PSP plays PSP discs, PSP minis, and PS1 Classics.

Vita plays Vita Cards, some PSP minis, and some digital PSP games.

PC plays ALOT :P

With rumors of the Wii U losing Gamecube B/C and only supporting 1 player, PS4 losing all B/C and blocking used games, and Xbox 720 blocking used games and requiring always online connection to play...

It seems quite discouraging looking at next gen; I hope zero of the rumors are true and next gen has the best games ever made, but that hope is squelched by a mountain of skepticism.

Time will eventually bring these consoles to market, but I may just keep on buying games on the currently available consoles and never make that jump to PS4/Wiiu... who knows...

Not if they are as locked down and monetized as i hear in the rumors.

Seriously i see the death of modern consolses not because of competition kiled them but because they themselves did it to themselves.

it just feels increasingly more and more like i'm being nickle and dimed for everything, from game content, story content, multiplayer content, to extra online services, to use the basic online services. etc. etc.

it is really starting to get obnoxious and i would not be one bit surprised if the industry just collapsed in on itself. If a new player entered the ring without such nonsense.
