I certainly think they are if you play a lot of multiplayer games or if you live with others and don't want to be making a lot of noise late at night its a good way to enjoy a game.
I have the Razer Megalodons and love them. The build quality is great, it's sturdy, EXTREMELY comfortable. It's a bit pricey, but I wanted stuff to match my Razer set :D
Yes, of course they are. There are things you just can't hear with your regular speakers, even if you put the volume to max, so headphones are a must if you're playing games a lot, especially multiplayer. Be warned though, excessive use of headphones might and will damage your hearing.

I wouldn't have said so until my monitor's terrible speakers forced me to get one (px21 from turtlebeach) and it is awesome. best sound I've ever experienced, beats my computer speakers, my monitor speakers, my tv speakers, even the big-ass speakers attached to my home-theatre.
I don't play multiplayer at all but it was worth it for me. I play games late at night and don't want to wake up anybody else so it is good. And when I play horror games it is best to have the lights off and the headphones on. Much more scary!
No they aren't worth it, recently got a logitech G35 and there isn't much of a difference between my old one and this one(had a 2$ headphones), surround sound is over exagerated .

People who are complaining about them being ripoffs probably just got bad headphones because they didn't research enough. Look around, make sure the headphones are good quality, and get them. They're actually very good for immersing yourself in the world.

if you have them up full blast they will damage your hearing, generally below 80db is considered pretty much safe as houses.If your blasting them at full volume all the time then its yourr own fault for destroying your ears.
I used to think they were a total rip-off before I got Turtle Beach X-11s. Very useful for multiplayer, hearing more sound in general, and also good when you're playing at night.

absolutely. i love my turtle beach headsets. had em for 2 years now i think. i dont get background noise from my tv, i can hear people's footsteps when playing battlefield and can tell what direction shots are coming from more easily. they're also really really comfortable. i love them, im probably gonna buy some new ones soon
