I read lots of good books on video games and their history, but was wondering if there's any good movies on our great medium? I seen the Indie Game movie but wondering if there's any other good ones out there? Thanks in advance.

  • Indie Game The Movie
  • Free to Play
  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on the PC came with an audio commentary I believe.

Here is a link to an article someone wrote about the 15 best video game documentaries. The list includes trailers and a description:

Have fun watching them!

Also another good game documentary I just found and didn't put on original post is "The Smash Brothers Documentary Series". It talks about the history of competitive Smash Brothers and its top players. I would suggest watching this one first since the creator put all the episodes of it on Youtube.

Here's the playlist:

Hope this helps

You left out King of Kong, which is awesome. It's more about competitive gaming on retro arcade machines, but it's highly entertaining.

Discovery made a series 5 episodes each a bit over an hour , also there is a few good online media documentaris about it

Think the discovery one was named Videogame history or something generic and common like that.

Also there is the new one Indie game something, that is actually pretty good and shows a bit on who a guy like phil fish is

Thank you for your replies. I seen King of Kong when it first came out, man that Billy guy was quite the idiot. I'll check out the list of suggestions!

@behardy24: It's one of the earliest ones I can remember that acheived mainstream recognition. It's pretty good.

Second Skin on Netflix Instant was a cautionary documentary about MMO addiction I enjoyed. Showed people's lives falling apart after they played too much Wow and Everquest. Also, there was a Second Life documentary on Netflix that was pretty disturbing.

@Byshop: I'm surprised I never heard of it. Well, I guess it's time for me to pop out of my little bubble and step outside into the real world.
