Haha I know right? I picked Vettel and thought yay but then he retires, Riccairdo is in 4th at the restart and finished 8th (I think, maybe even lower) and that's another negative points tally for him for my predictions, dam it man stop qualifying so high up! Caterham beating Marussia again. Arrrrrgh!

BRITISH GP RESULTS

  1. Avenger1324 (182.5 pts)
    kingdre (182.5 pts)
  2. SadPS3Addict (126 pts)
  3. SadPSPAddict (97.5 pts)
  4. kipi19 (97.5 pts)
  5. Rayrota (89.5 pts)
  6. sambob530 (88.5 pts)
  7. tony205 (82.5 pts)
  8. Redders1989 (49.5 pts)
  9. Garfield360UK (48.5 pts)

Given the recent controversy over the Mercedes / Pirelli tyre test, having 4 blowouts in one race can only fuel speculation about their suitability and the need for a change in construction or compound. Hamilton was the first casualty, followed by Massa, Vergne and finally Perez in the closing laps. The two safety car periods helped Hamilton recover from half a lap on 3 wheels to finish 4th and Massa to 6th, but the damage to Verge and Perez was terminal - Verne was the first retirement.

Rosberg was able to take advantage of Vettel's gearbox failure to take the win, securing Mercedes as Best Constructor. Worst Constructor was a 3-way tie - Caterham and Marussia being the usual suspects, accompanied by McLaren who continue their poor run this season.

Due to being underweight in qualifying Paul di Resta was forced to start from the back, but for the third race in a row was able to turn a poor qualifying into a points finish, and made him the highest scoring driver this round.

After the final safety car Sutil and Ricciardo lost places, while Webber and Alonso gained. Grosjean's late retirement cancelled out Raikkonen's 5th place finish.

Congratulations to both Avenger1324 and kingdre who win this round with 182.5 points, setting a new high score for the season. kingdre takes his first ever win, and Avenger1324 takes his 4th in a row and 5th of the season. The selection of Ferrari, Mercedes and Force India was the strongest this round.

kipi19 made use of his Wildcard entry but slips further behind kingdre due to his strong performance.

In the Championship there was quite a re-shuffle. Avenger1324 extended his lead to 236.5 points. Rayrota climbed 1 place into 2nd, sambob530 climbed 2 places into 3rd, SadPS3Addict climbed 3 places into 4th and tony205 climbed 1 place into 5th. The losers from this were Garfield360UK who dropped 4 places into 6th and Redders1989 who dropped 3 places into 7th. kingdre closed the gap on SadPSPAddict to 82.5 points.

::

SINGLE ENTRY CHALLENGE RESULTS

  1. Rayrota (106 pts)
  2. sambob530 (93.5 pts)
  3. SadPS3Addict (81 pts)
  4. Garfield360UK (75.5 pts)
  5. SadPSPAddict (68.5 pts)
  6. Avenger1324 (65.5 pts)

Congratulations to Rayrota who takes his 2nd win of the season and stretches his lead to 55.5 points. sambob530 took back 2nd place from SadPSPAddict with the other places unchanged.

Haha, I have gone from being near the top to near the bottom due to the last few races. Man this is so hard to get the right call at the moment, Mercedes seem like a team to go with given how they keep winning even though their early season form suggested their race pace was nowhere. Arrrrrrgghhhh.

Avenger already has 5 wins this season and is over 230 points clear of second place.

There must be a regulation which he's breached so we can give him a one race ban...

In fact, my record of most wins in one season is in trouble. I managed 6 in 2009. Avenger has 5 and there's still 11 races left...

My hopes of not winning an event but taking the championship seem to be laying in the wayside now. Can not believe how poor my form has been in the last few races, I try to go with what I feel is likely to happen and we end up with tyres wrecking my predictions of Raikonnen/Riccairdo not holding their dam places at the end of the race!

Arrrgh.

I think I had been playing for more than a year before getting my first win, and now probably more in a season than I had in all prev years combined. I guess 4 in a row is also a record :)

Is it a coincidence that I started to pick Force India & Paul di Resta 3 races ago, and in each of those weekends something has gone wrong with his qualifying?

I would like to take this opportunity to deny that I have a henchman sabotaging his car

I think it's simpler than that. There must be a line in a formula somewhere that says:

" if UserName = Avenger1324 then Total_Score = Total_Score + 50 end if"

Haha, I guess it swings in roundabouts, that and I think people are getting better at what they are picking this time around given how the consistency of the field is pretty much getting more and more level (i.e. who would have though Toro Rosso and Force India would out qualify Ferrari on raw pace terms with no dodgy weather or damaged cars being the culprit, or what Williams have essentially become that third team that doesn't score points.

Saying that, Maldonaldo was very close to it this weekend looking at the results, something like half a second of Hulkenberg who was in 10th place.

I think a big (and good) difference with this year is that team performance last year is not the same as this year. That has opened up a lot more options for team picks, as you no longer need to have a 1 or 2 point team to get a good score.

Last year predictions were dominated by combinations picking 2 from the top 4, and making up the points from Marussia, Caterham and HRT. Very few picks made use of the teams in the middle unless they showed a good run of form - Sauber consistently outperforming expectations.

This year with McLaren performing so poorly, Mercedes performing much better than last year, Force India and even Toro Rosso consistently getting a car into Q3 and scoring points it means mid and lower end teams can actually score good points, rather than just being there to make up the total to 25, balancing the 2 you really want.

GERMAN GP RESULTS

  3. Rayrota (85.5 pts)
  4. kipi19 (77.5 pts)

  7. Redders1989 (75 pts)
  8. Avenger1324 (60.5 pts)
  9. kingdre (56 pts)
  10. tony205 (51 pts)

Pirelli changed the tyre construction for Germany, so thankfully we did not see a repeat of Silverstone's exploding tyres. Mercedes were able to continue their strong qualifying performance, putting Hamilton on pole, despite messing up Rosberg's Q2 failing to send him out for a 2nd run and missing the cut, but could not turn that into a race win.

Vettel bounced back from a rare Red Bull reliability issue at Silverstone to take his first German GP win. Lotus managed to take the other podium places and took Best Constructor. Worst Constructor fell to Marussia with the bizarre incident of Bianchi's car rolling backwards across the track. Massa was the first to retire spinning out early.

Congratulations to sambob530 who takes his 3rd win of the season, and 2nd double by taking both normal and SEC wins at the same race. This round results were tightly packed, as many avoided Lotus due to low recent scores, while popular picks like Bianchi failed to finish and Mercedes could not repeat recent success.

In the Championship the only change in position was Garfield360UK taking 5th place from tony205. Rayrota took 25 points out of Avenger1324's lead.

  5. Avenger1324 (56 pts)
  6. SadPSPAddict (54 pts)

Congratulations to sambob530 who takes his 3rd win of the season and reduces Rayrota's lead to 32.5 points. There were no changes in overall position.

We now have a slightly longer wait for the next race (3 weeks to Hungary) than originally planned due to the European GP (I think) falling off the calendar as Spain couldn't afford 2 races and a suitable replacement couldn't be organised in time.

Not sure if I'm bothered if there's no Valencia race anymore, along with Singapore and Bahrain it's my least favourite circuit. Wish Germany got 2 GPs again instead. Or an Austrian GP, I miss the A1 Ring.

I was going to mention that, the old Hockenheimring was so good, unbelievably fast with a twisty section at the end, complemented Monza perfectly.

And I completely forgot about San Marino, that was a great track too. Other great sort-of recently used circuits for me are Istanbul, Adelaide (but Melbourne is equally brilliant), Magny-Cours and Fuji (but Suzuka is a classic).

Dammit Bernie, just bring back these old tracks, let Abu Dhabi/Singapore/Valencia go, bring back these late 90s/early 2000s tracks back. But dont het rid of the new US GP. That's a great track.

I wish they'd make Singapore have the race distance limit that Monaco does. It would only decrease the distance by 9 laps (from 61 to 52), but take a good 15-20 minutes out meaning there shouldn't be any concern of hitting the time limit (I know last year was the only year it's done this, but still...)

Then DRS to the third corner? I like it.

Also as Sambob530 says, it would be nice to get a track at France (I though the Paul Ricard circuit was under consideration)?

Me too, the nearly 2 hour race that we've had almost every single time is just too much on such a twisty track, especially if there is an accident. I think my problem with the track is that it all looks the same, there's very few remarkable corners (for me anyway), and I canter help but think F1 just shouldn't be at night, it makes the TV pictures look odd, although I do like how you can see inside the helmet quite easily.

HUNGARIAN GP RESULTS

  1. Garfield360UK (143 pts)
    Redders1989 (143 pts)
  2. kingdre (140 pts)
  3. Avenger1324 (134 pts)

  7. SadPSPAddict (96.5 pts)
  8. Rayrota (95.5 pts)
  9. sambob530 (68.5 pts)

Mercedes were keen to point out that missing the young driver test and opportunity to test the new Pirelli tyres would scupper their chances of doing well this weekend - so naturally Hamilton managed to take pole and the race win. Rosberg wasn't quite so fortunate, qualifying 4th, but had to retire as his engine failed near the end of the race.

Vettel spent much of the race looking at the rear of Button's McLaren, and spent the closing laps doing the same to Raikkonen. Webber opted to sit out of Q3 to take a different tyre strategy into the race, which paid off with a 4th place finish, and secured Red Bull as best constructor this weekend.

Force India had a rotten weekend and took Worst Constructor. Di Resta had yet another disappointing qualifying, falling out in Q3 or having penalties for the 4th time in 5 races, only to have to retire just short of the end of the race (not sure if it was televised as the focus was on Vettel vs Raikkonen). Meanwhile Sutil, meant to be celebrating his 100th GP, suffered the ignominy of being the first to retire with mechanical failure in the pitlane.

While Kobayashi may no longer be in F1, he will be pleased to see the amount of power-sliding going on round the final corner ;)

Congratulations to Garfield360UK and Redders1989 who share the honors taking the win - Garfield's 1st and Redders' 2nd of the season. Until the penalties for DNF were applied to Force India the result was very close across 6 accounts, but the double retirement and not gaining places was costly.

Webber outscored Vettel because of his Quali tactics, but no-one picked him. Button also scored well based on places gained, but no-one picked McLaren, and Giedo van der Garde, usually picked for first retirement, scored highest out of the Caterham / Marussia drivers - but again not picked by anyone!

In the Championship there were a lot of changes. Garfield360UK used his win to climb 3 places into 2nd, while Redders1989 climbed 2 places to 5th and SadPSPAddict climbed 1 to take 3rd. Making way for them Rayrota slipped 2 places to 4th, sambob530 slipped 2 to 6th and tony205 fell 1 place to 7th. Positions 2 to 5 are now separated by just 23 points - less than picking the race winning driver.

Just a quick post to say that I will get the scores for Spa done, just not sure when - hopefully by this weekend.

Today was my last day in my current job - tomorrow is the first day of my new one, so the last week or so has been a bit manic sorting everything out.

BELGIAN GP RESULTS

  1. kingdre (170 pts)
  2. kipi19 (166 pts)
  3. SadPS3Addict (155.5 pts)
  4. tony205 (114 pts)
  5. Redders1989 (101.5 pts)
  6. SadPSPAddict (82.5 pts)
  7. Rayrota (78.5 pts)

  9. Garfield360UK (65 pts)
  10. Avenger1324 (62 pts)

After the tyre issues at Silverstone there was plenty of "what would happen if that was at Eau Rouge", so seeing two punctures during practice was not the best start, but fortunately it was identified to be a piece off Raikonnen's car that was at fault. The tyres survived and even allowed for some extreme bravery from the drivers heading into Eau Rouge almost side by side or slip streaming each other up the hill.

Di Resta held provisional pole as the timer ran down in Q3, having opted to go out on Intermediates, but as the track dried out he was only able to match his career best qualifying spot of 5th. Maldonado then ended his race after hitting both Force Indias at the final chicane.

Hamilton continued his and Mercedes run of form in qualifying by taking pole, but after losing the place to Vettel coming out of Eau Rouge on the opening lap he could only finish 3rd. Vettel took the win, and as usual ignored his race engineer in the final laps by setting the fastest lap to build up his record. With Webber 5th Red Bull took Best Constructor.

Charles Pic was the first to retire, and resulted in Caterham being Worst Constructor. Raikonnen also failed to finish, ending his run of most consecutive points scoring finishes.

Congratulations to kingdre who takes his second win of the season, and in doing so has managed to catch the pack after missing the first 3 races of the season and overtakes SadPSPAddict for 8th place. kipi19 finished second and is now within 70 points of 9th. Avenger1324 and Garfield360UK, previously 1st and 2nd both went for Raikonnen and di Resta, so came last and second last respectively. Redders1989 used his wildcard and finished in the middle.

In the Championship there were a lot of changes. Avenger1324's last place finish sees him keep the lead, but cut to 142 points. Garfield360UK slipped to 4th, allowing SadPS3Addict to take 2nd and Redders1989 to 3rd. Rayrota dropped one place to 5th. tony205 took 6th from sambob530, and kingdre made up for missing the first 3 races of the season to take 8th place from SadPSPAddict.

I'd like to celebrate being 3rd... but 6th place is only 23.5 pts behind!

Haha fantastic, I pick Raikkonen and Di Resta as they are really consistent and Force India tend to do well in Spa. Guess that backfired :P

Ah well, roll on Italy!

ITALIAN GP RESULTS

  1. kingdre (124.5 pts)
  2. Avenger1324 (123.5 pts)
  3. SadPS3Addict (121.5 pts)
  4. Redders1989 (91.5 pts)

  6. tony205 (90.5 pts)
  7. Rayrota (82 pts)
  8. kipi19 (28.5 pts)
  9. SadPSPAddict (21.5 pts)
  10. sambob530 (17.5 pts)

Sebastian Vettel continues his run of form winning yet another race this season and extending his lead over Alonso to 53 points, and 81 ahead of Hamilton who had a poor weekend. Red Bull declared Monza was one of their weaker tracks, but still managed to get both drivers on the podium.

Raikonnen and Hamilton both compromised their weekends with poor qualifying performance, and despite plenty of overtakes during the race, could do little more than battle each other over the final points scoring places. As if to prove he had the performance Hamilton put in the fastest race lap. Hulkenberg had his best performance to date finishing 5th, and scoring more points in this one race than Sauber have done so far this season. This could prove to be excellent timing for him as seats at major teams become available.

Di Resta had an unusual accident on the first lap, crashing into the back of Grosjean and becoming the first retirement. He received a reprimand for this after the race, but no further penalties.

Congratulations to kingdre who takes back-to-back wins and his third win of the season., and in doing so has managed to catch the pack after missing the first 3 races of the season and overtakes SadPSPAddict for 8th place. kipi19 finished second and is now within 70 points of 9th. Avenger1324 and Garfield360UK, previously 1st and 2nd both went for Raikonnen and di Resta, so came last and second last respectively. Redders1989 used his wildcard and finished in the middle.

In the Championship kingdre's win moves him up to 7th ahead of sambob530 while tony205 took 5th place from Rayrota. The top 4 remain in the same order finishing in the same order this round.

I have more points in the Single Entry Championship than in the normal championship. I am clearly doing something wrong here.

You do know I did not pick Raikkonen or Di Resta for that race?

Edit: Dam Force India, just looking at the points, if Sutil had not retired I would have managed to claw back some points on Redders. Gah!

This is getting increasingly difficult to pick, I go with drivers who are normally on the ball and it ends up loosing me points (Sutil not finishing, Rosberg not really doing much in the race). I am curious to know how many points Hulkenberg would have got given he is in a team not doing well so to score high points that he did I would assume counts for points but then he dropped places from his qualifying position thus would this mean he would finish on negative points for that?

So very frustrating as it just seems lady luck is not shining my way on this :P

But again, thank you for continuing to support this predictions championship, it is a lot of work and I for one am grateful at your continued efforts in keeping it up to date and calculating the results and entering the data etc that is time consuming I would hazard a guess.

Ah, looks like I'm going to go back to two top teams and two bottom teams instead of going for 4 in the middle. 17.5 points is very poor, especially compared to my SE results, which have almost always been better :P

Points are only awarded for places gained, and not penalised for places lost. Sadly for Hulkenberg his excellent qualifying (3rd) set him a pretty impossible target to hit, so finishing 5th only won him his actual points total of 10. Places gained points are usually the dubious honour for Marussia / Caterham drivers in races where there are a lot of other retirements. Di Resta did well from this during his run of issues in qualifying, but then making up for it in the race - but sadly not this weekend!

But again, thank you for continuing to support this predictions championship, it is a lot of work and I for one am grateful at your continued efforts in keeping it up to date and calculating the results and entering the data etc that is time consuming I would hazard a guess.Garfield360UK

Thank you :) I try to get it done soon after a race, but it's the usual battle for free time. Thankfully my new job seems to be going well, so a lot of the stress of the last few months looking for something else in my evenings now seems to have paid off - long may it last :)

SINGAPORE GP RESULTS
  1. Redders1989 (109.5 pts)
  2. tony205 (109 pts)
  3. Garfield360UK (104 pts)
  4. Avenger1324 (103 pts)
  5. SadPS3Addict (97.5 pts)
  6. kingdre (94 pts)
  7. Rayrota (83 pts)
  8. SadPSPAddict (79.5 pts)
  9. sambob530 (77 pts)

Nico Rosberg managed to beat Vettel into the first corner before losing the racing line and handing the place back. That was the brief moment that Vettel wasn't leading this weekend, having taken fastest practice, pole position, fastest lap and yet another race win. Pulling out 2 seconds a lap with ease meant he could drive his own race, only briefly interrupted by Ricciardo crashing and bringing out the safety car - a feature of all Singapore GP so far.

Webber was looking to make it another good weekend for Red Bull before reliability issues resulted in engine failure on the final lap. Alonso sportingly picked him up on the in-lap after the race, but resulted in a reprimand for both drivers and Webber a 10-place grid penalty for the next race. Ferrari picked up best constructor with Alonso in 2nd and Massa 6th. Toro Rosso were worst constructor narrowly worse than Marrusia and Caterham tied 1 point behind.

Congratulations to Redders1989 who takes his third win of the season. Congratulations also to tony205 who managed the first perfect podium of the year, finishing just 0.5pts behind Redders. As the scoring was fairly close this round there were no overall changes of position.

  5. SadPSPAddict (88 pts)
  6. SadPS3Addict (60 pts)

Congratulations to Rayrota who takes his 4th win of the season. There were no changes in overall position, but SadPSPAddict in 3rd and Garfield360UK in 4th are split by just half a point.

Also further congratulations to tony205 - his Perfect Podium Prediction makes him only the second ever person to achieve this twice (I'm no longer a stand-alone in this field!).

As long as Avenger doesn't win any more races this year, I'm happy - I still lead the way for most wins in a season (which I'd have to share with Avenger if he gets another!) and most career wins!

SOUTH KOREAN GP RESULTS

  7. Rayrota (83.5 pts)
  8. sambob530 (73 pts)
  9. SadPSPAddict (69 pts)
  10. Avenger1324 (67.5 pts)

Vettel's dominant run continues, sweeping through the predictions with fastest practice, pole position, race win and fastest lap - along with Rocky's usual penultimate lap radio message to calm down and get it to the end ;)

Meanwhile Webber continues to take the bad luck for Red Bull, starting with a 10-place grid penalty, pitting just before a safety car, picking up a puncture on his out-lap from Perez's tyre explosion, before being taken out by Sutil and having his Red Bull catch fire and burn out.

Lotus took best constructor, taking 2nd and 3rd. Force India and Toro Rosso took joint Worst constructors with double DNFs. Paul di Resta picked up his 4th DNF in 4 races.

Congratulations to Redders1989 who takes his fourth win of the season and 2 in a row. The gamble for Webber failed to pay off, but as the only person to pick Lotus their 2/3 finish more than made up for it. sambob530 made use of his wildcard. For the second race in a row there were no overall changes of position in the championship.

  6. SadPSPAddict (29.5 pts)

Congratulations to Rayrota who takes his 5th win of the season, 2 in a row, and both better than any scores in the main competition. There were no changes in overall position, with everyone scoring in their championship order.
