User Rating: 6.7 | Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken GBA
It's hard to rate this game with such a low score considering all the hype and history surrounding the fire emblem series. Intelligent systems, the creators of advance wars 1 and 2 have proved themselves capable of producing intuitive and fun gameplay elements in their games and was the reason i decided to invest in fire emblem. The bottom line is that this game is very repetitive and hardly lets you develop characters because you are forced to change clans every ten missions or so. The gameplay is way to simplistic and often offers no challenge because you are over equipped and too powerful for you foes. Also, the story in this game is extremely boring...before and after every battle the player is presented by a cheesy lengthy cutscene(comic script style) and when i said lenghty I mean lengthy. Scrolling through this boring text was continuosly annoying and left me thinking that the dialog was more important than the gameplay(If i wanted to read I would have bought a book). More intuitive units could have been implemented and less repetitive gameplay much needed. The animations are impressive during fights but the landscapes are way to similar from map to map...leaving the player wondering whether anything will change. It's unfortunate because you can find some reasons to like this game but for what it is you can't call this one a classic.
