User Rating: 8.5 | Final Fantasy X-2 PS2
Final Fantasy X-2 was completely different than any of its Predecessors. The beginning of the game made me want to take it back to the store and get a refund, but as I continued I realized 6-7 hours of my days were being applied to this dazzling game. The mission based concept made FFX-2 way to easy too beat which took its toll on how good the game play was. Being able to run through the game run through the game in 20 hours or less is not an ordinary Final Fantasy trait. Yes, you could drag 50 hours out of the game, but too many of the side quest had no relevance to the story line. Black mage, White mage, warrior.... and the list goes on. I'm not sure how I feel about the dress spheres, on one end they make the game better by forcing you to figure out who you want to do what, but I still think this type of game is better when you meet up with random specialists who join your party. Let’s move on to the good things about FFX-2. The graphics didn't surprise me because I was expecting something better than the first FFX in the first place. Nevertheless, they were nice to gaze upon. Throughout the game, music was present, and when it wasn’t, soothing sounds filled in the background. I really enjoyed every bit of the music and sounds, which is more than I can say about the past Final Fantasy games. BATTLE SYSTEM!! I absolutely adore the high speed, in your face, and I can't stop and go answer the door because the monsters will kill me while I'm gone battle system. In all honesty, I think every FF game after this one should have this fast action fighting in it. I have a cousin who hates all RPGs, and he even said "Wow, I wouldn't mind playing RPGs if all of them were as fast as this one". This great new feature makes you prepare for Bosses like no other Final Fantasy adventure. Running into a tough battle and not knowing how you plan to win, will definitely result in a GAMEOVER. This unique feature made the game well worth playing even if your not a Final Fantasy Fan (alliteration :-p ). When it comes down to it, FFX-2 was a great game for all, but mainly for the true followers. Now that a true sequel of a Final Fantasy game has been made, I don't think I want it to end. Hopefully, square soft will find it in their hearts to keep trying new things to make an astounding series of games, the Lord of all RPGs.
