A classic gem that will shine for years to come

I can remember the very first time I put this cart into my SNES. I remember the dramatic intro music, complete with the thunderstorm to match. I remember being very excited...I couldn't wait to pull up the save menu and create my own game. I figured that it would be good.

I could never have been more right.

Final Fantasy VI (released as FFIII in the U.S.) is a story about a war between humans and magical beings called Espers. At the beginning, you'll learn that this war was fought a thousand years ago, and that now, an evil force known as the Empire is attempting to revive magic and use it to destroy the world. It's a sensational theme, but it becomes more dramatic as you play the game, revealing other characters motives and emotions, and eventually blurring the line between good and evil. You'll come to respect some characters and hate others...it's just that compelling. For instance, you'll hate Kefka, the game's antagonist, almost immediately, and your hate will grow deeper as you discover the many evil acts he commits. FFIII is simply a roller-coaster ride of emotions, right up to the very end.

The music...ah, what is there to say? Nobuo Uematsu outdid himself with this game, that's for sure. The music is very expressive, and it helps to bring out the storyline's emotions. You'll often find yourself humming tunes from the game. It ranges from fun and light, to dark and depressing. Utterly amazing.

The graphics are astounding. Sure, it's nothing compared to the awesome effects of today, but for it's time, it doesn't get any better. The animations, the magic, the summons...all are top-notch for the console.

In short, this game is a masterpiece. Words can't really do it justice, so why not pick up a copy and play it? I recommend the SNES cart, because there were no loading times, but since it's difficult to find, the PlayStation version (Final Fantasy Anthology) will work fine. A definite must-own for any RPG fan.
