User Rating: 6 | Fallout 3: Point Lookout PC
The Point Lookout expansion for Fallout 3 takes the player to the all-new region called Point Lookout which is located somewhere in Maryland. The expansion adds a whole new and mysterious area to explore and an all-new "main" questline. The whole experience of Point Lookout is excellent, unfortunately it has some major frame rate problems that mar the package.

Due to the fact that this "game" is not a game but an addition to another game, I will refrain from writing in my standard review format. Instead I will write one detailed paragraph outlining the pros and cons of the content. Point Lookout takes the player away from the wastes to a swampy location that is found somewhere in modern-day Maryland. The place is like a bog; foggy, cloudy skies, wet ground, and meandering rivers. The new area offers the player a lot more exploring to do with the mansions and buildings that litter the region. The area is probably about ΒΌ the size of the wastes back in D.C., but getting from place to place is quickly done. Before I go further into the review, there is one crippling con concerning Point Lookout. The frame rate, for whatever reason, seems to chug either while in hairy situations or while just walking through the wilderness. This frame rate issue affects combat, movement, and even when bringing up the Pip-Boy 3000 to look at the map or whatnot. The problem is extremely annoying and it really hampers the enjoyment of exploration or from going to one place or another, but thankfully it does not seem to be as prevalent inside buildings or in the only town in Point Lookout. If you can ignore the frame issue long enough you can do everything the addon has to offer, but it is sad to say you might end up yearning to get back to the wastelands just to escape the chugging frames. Nonetheless, this addon has a lot to offer in terms of quests and items. The main quest line is interesting and provides two to three hours of play, and there are other miscellaneous quests to partake of as well. I was personally pleased with the main game because it not only kept me guessing about what was going to happen next, but even after I thought I had seen everything something else I did not expect happened. This expansion offers many new items to find and play around with but there is nothing that is overly exceptional. The aggressive locals carry hillbilly-like weapons like double-barrel shotguns or lever-action rifles. Incidentally, it should be noted, that a couple of these enemies carry a passing resemblance to the corprus monsters from another previous Bethesda game. This may just be the personal observation of the author. The obtainable items in Point Lookout follow the same kind of hillbilly style content to a degree as with items like moonshine and even a homemade distillery in one of the resident's homes.

Point Lookout is a decent expansion, but due to the fact that it has serious frame rate issues it is hard to recommend at least until you have played the other addons first. The lack of any exceptional equipment and weapons hampers its value at least in terms of loot, but if for nothing else it offers more exploration and plenty of additional experience. I would not recommend buying this expansion for any more than $9.99 but finding it for less would be even better. The pros it has counterbalances the cons to create a so-so mediocre experience overall.
