TOKYO--While much of the focus at Sony Computer Entertainment's booth during the Tokyo Game Show was on the PlayStation 3, the company wasn't about to let attendees forget about its PlayStation Portable. In addition to showing off its latest games for the handheld and providing a demo download area, Sony had glassed-in showcases featuring a lineup of PSPs in new color variations.

Earlier this year, Sony Europe announced that it was releasing a pink PSP in the region in October. Now it appears that Sony Japan will follow suit, as it showed off a pink version of the PSP on the show floor. However, SCEJ is doing Japan one better, as a silver PSP was also on display. Both the silver and pink versions were confirmed to hit the Japanese market sometime soon. There was also a pink slimline PlayStation 2 (previously announced for Europe) on display, but Sony did not reveal if it too was being released in Japan.

Sony also took the opportunity to show off a few other stylish PSP color variations, although they were strictly prototypes and are not planned for release anywhere. One showcase had red, blue, and yellow PSPs, all with a metallic sheen, while another showcase featured two PSPs with different camouflage patterns. Sony did a similar multihued PSP blitz back at E3 2004 when the portable was first announced.

"hpi_5555" sony always makes awsome designed products..everyone can agree on that...as for nintendo, not really...well, i did start to like the ds lite, but it when i saw it, it looked like it took the shiny faceplate from the psp...well if its for the better of its looks, then i dont care...i want that yellow one really bad! i said that since e304!!!

hpi_5555, DS didn't come out in all the colours like the later GB did, because those colours were released later...
More DS colours or versions are sure tro follow.

As for the PSP, i can imagine adding a bit of colour to the mix would spice up its, sleek, but dull design. But then again, silver and pink? Yeah sure, pink to appeal to the female gamers blah blah blah, but is there any content available for someone who would actually buy a pink PSP? And the silver PSP looks even more dull. That red one does look great though. Perhaps releasing red and blue along woth a price drop would've dragged in some gamers...

On the color side of things, Sony seems to be out Nintendo-ing Nintendo. I wonder why the DS doesn't come in all the colors of the rainbow, like the later Gameboys did?

Reading this made me remember I bought a PSP April 05, wonder where it is now? Did they ever make any worthwhile games for it? what a waste of money.

Okay, I can't imagine anyone losing their camouflage PSP in their home, which gives Sony the upper hand in making those consumers buy more of their PSPs. The black PSP is all I need, even though I don't use it anymore!

That camouflage PSP is pretty damn ugly. They should have went with a green color instead of that camo. Looks like something only little kids and idiotic militia members would carry around. The blue and red ones look pretty damn cool, however.
