This game did not age well.

Actually that would imply that the graphics were considered decent in 08 which they weren't. I can not overstate that the graphics for the main map look uninspired, bland, ugly, and boring. This is what ruined the game for me the crappy, intolerable graphics. The game says I am in 1024x768 mode, but the game looks like I am in 640x420 mode. To be honest I played the game for 15 minutes before quiting. I just could not stand the ugly map, and boring way my military units moved. Even recruiting your military units is done from an ugly, plain looking interface. I've tried upping the resolution to 1280x1040, and while there is a tiny difference everything I said about the map previously still stands.
The only good things I found are generals have history so you can look up what battles they won and lost. I thought combat was unrealistic: I was invaded, and I killed 1000 of theirs, and only lost 20 of mine, or maybe it was 2 people lost of mine. The game does have quite a few options, but most were locked for me early on. The User Interface seemed abit too complex for me to explore all the options the game has; atleast in 15 minutes. I saw a senate, but did not explore any options it has.
Be forewarned if you are thinking of picking this up.
