Stunning, exciting, even funny, but let down by an empty and unfulfilling story and conclusion.

The first thing you will notice about this game is how amazing it looks and sounds. The world around you is believeable and this is reinforced by a small but very likeable cast who are voiced exceptionally and offer some truly hilarious moments thanks to some brilliant scripting.

The controls are a little bit stiff but luckily there are few opportunities in this game to make any mistakes thanks to the very preset route which you must follow, and Monkey can never accidently fall to his death, because the game simply wont let you. My issue with this is that you never feel truly in control and with Monkey's incredible climbing abilities it feels unrealistic that he cannot cling to other parts of the environment around him or interact with more.

My next issue is with the opposition. Combat is quite dull and never reaches beyond, stun, button mash, stun, button mash. The enemies you face, (all robots) are all pretty similar and dont really require individual tactics either. To make matters worse we are never really told what has happened in this world and why it is populated by nothing but machines. The story never really unfolds and we are simply moved along with events as they happen. This climaxes with a final encounter which is a rip off of a certain Hollywood blockbuster and feels tacked on when the writers couldn't think of how to end the story. In the end it all felt like a bit of an anticlimax to what could have been an amazing story to match the excellent acting, script and characters.

I would recommend that everyone gives this game a go, especially since it is so cheap to buy now. Its wonderful features may be slightly hampered by some obvious flaws, but the beautiful experience this game offers is one not to be missed.
