Anyone remember when ID made games that were not garbage corridor shooters? OOPS sorry. anyone remember when ID made games that weren't Rage?

CruiserCaptain 40 pts

I still have wolfenstien. remember the secret level with the ghosts?

Fayt1986 36 pts

quake 3.... ate years of my life playing it with an old friend.

MasterYevon 10 pts

Great mini-documentary! Unfortunately, Rage was... meh... :(

Faxanadu1988 5 pts

Nice vid. Played DooM al lot ....and still playing ;-)

valent1n 6 pts

great video article, you should have talked more on the Rage game, i am sure that much of the fellow players did not tried it yet. My favorite: Doom 1

Thing1232 5 pts

Love that quote. "Masters of a genre that others have milked dry."

Mario_Dan 5 pts

Doom 2 is my favorite. I just hope DOOM 4 does not become a game with "new school" rules.

ashleyobrien 5 pts

yeah I couldnt believe it when that guy said RTC Wolfenstein was only average! the game was a trip! it was long, graphics were excellent (for the day) and it played good, story was cool-remember the bit at the beggining? "Heinrich-your rein of terror must end..."...that was cool...

pankajsingh5k 7 pts

the only way some gamers could cope with the horror of it all was to modify the gun mounted flashlight to look like a hello kitty logo .... aww thats better ... *unknown noise*....ahhhhhhhhhhh....guns blazing........ loved that part :)

Angel848 5 pts

I don't know if this was mentioned already, but Unreal Tournament offered much of the same ideas as Quake 3, and it's release date was, to my knowledge, a few days prior.

Doom is the BEST id software game, hell, its the best game of all time!!!! Rage was OK, some flaws are there, but damn, it uses id tech 5 engine *_* cant wait for Doom4 =)

h4wkw0lf613 5 pts

@JOKER677 It's the world of gaming that would have been...DOOMED.

JOKER677 5 pts

Wonder what would've happened if Doom never showed up...

tyrosxps 5 pts

"Pretty average" Return to Castle Wolfenstein? Has this guy even played it? It was a masterpiece

marty2004 27 pts

I miss the modem handshake sound.....haha. Where is my 33.6. My favorite ID game is wolfenstein. Great show!

dkpine 5 pts

favourite would probs be Quake 2 for PS btw.

dkpine 5 pts

Im so upset return to castle wolfenstien only got a "there was the average.." i loved that game, up until half life 2 i used to play it after i completed whatever game i'd saved up and bought that month because it was AWESOME!

Renoo27 11 pts

Favourite id game would probably be Doom 3 for many reasons. The nostalgic feeling of seeing old Doom enemies, and being the first Survival Horror game I played. Having said that, I did have an awesome time playing RAGE. Shame it wasn't better recieved.

dagrimmreepa 5 pts

Machinima's All Your History already covered this, and did it much better.

parrot_of_adun 108 pts

I wouldn't really call PC gaming before Doom "all about solitaire and minesweeper". We had gems like Dune II and Wasteland.

auntbessie 7 pts

Thought Rage was excellent, wish they'd hurry up with an expansion pack or sequel, there's very little ID can do wrong imo which is probably a good thing given the eternity they make us wait between games

GelidusV 5 pts

I want a sequel to Quake 1. Quake 2 was fun, but its story and monsters were completely unrelated.

dannyodwyer 55 pts

@cynicalundead hahaha, this made my day.

Grovilis 26 pts

Wait, Escape From Mount Stupid is the new name for the show? LOL I love it!

cynicalundead 6 pts

Hey this is just an old video re-titled! And "Escape from Mount Stupid!?" I can't believe this is what they went with! I saw @dannyodwyer talking about this on twitter yesterday, but I thought he was "bluffing." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muEnLlycOn4#t=1m13s

nima_metal90 46 pts

Doom series are awesome, I love the music from first & second one

xsonicchaos 37 pts

that's why i love good games today that most people underestimate. even games rated under 5. why? when i think what games i've played when i was a kid, i can only hope for a great playtime. but we must not let our guard down, cause once we tell developers they do great jobs they'll stop progressing.

scorchingitup 7 pts

Doom 4 i hope to god will be EPIC! Go ID!

linedrive09 9 pts

While many of you hate it, Quake Wars is actually one of my favorite shooters.

runarjenssen 6 pts

I always like to see Id as very similar to the Roman Empire. They grew big by using some insanely innovative ideas that proved nearly flawless in practice. But then, they grew too big and eventually lost interest in maintaining their greatness. Eventually they crashed and startet tumbling down, gradually floating farther and farther into obscurity. Now they can't even make a half-decent, original game with some new ideas and/or impressive technical aspects. And don't tell me Rage had mindblowing graphics. I can name ten other games released recently that has just as good-looking graphics as Rage. You couldn't do that when you compared games to Wolfenstein, Doom or Quake. Nowadays, Id is one of the game-studios that struggle the most keeping up with the modern gaming industry. The only one that was worse at keeping up, was 3D Realms. And we all know how THAT turned out...

brande77 5 pts

Quake 4 would be more equivalent to Doom 3.

game_gt3 7 pts

i still like and play quake 2 and doom 3. they are awesome. quake 3 was good 2.

ThePimpChimp 5 pts

doom 3 is probably my favourite game to date

McWalt 5 pts

It must obviously be QUAKE. Why? - the first real 3D shooter - spawned Team Fortress, the basis for all real MP games today - made Half-Life possible, which spawned CounterStrike

B-boy 15 pts

quake 3 arena > any call of duty game

B-boy 15 pts

doom who started all doom>halo

gvidzix 5 pts

DooM, DooM 2 - i have played them I don't know how much times and hours, and then came DooM 3. I did play it recently too. Yes the best id games are DooM series.

foojam 5 pts

@ Son_Jazrin I know but we don't give a s*it about consoles, they too know the truth.

mrbigpaws 5 pts

doom 3 is best So far , rage leaves you wondering what happens next , the game is too short . but still a good game.

SINISTER_XIII 5 pts

I was a HUGE fan of Heretic. Loved the maps, enemies, weapons and overall atmosphere. Gauntlets + Tome of Power = WIN!

Son_Jazrin 5 pts

@foojam I gotta agree with ya there, but console fanatics won't.

Plataea 7 pts

Wolfenstein 3D was not actually the first first-person shooter. It was preceded by earlier games like Maze Wars, Hovertank 3D, and Catacomb 3D. Wolfenstein 3D did help to popularise the genre though, and to establish some of its characteristics.
