ECW videogame? More like "WWF Attitude" lite

User Rating: 5 | ECW Hardcore Revolution N64
It was only a matter of time that ECW would try their hand at releasing a videogame of their promotion. However, what we got was a very mediocre game that has nothing to do with what ECW was all about.

+ A lot of the major names of ECW are in the game
Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Tajiri, Tommy Dreamer, Super Crazy, Nova, Full Blooded Italians, Rhino. Some of the many big names of ECW are here ready to beat you down. One of the big downfalls however is the omission of the Dudley Boys.

- Haven't I played this game before?
The second you play this game AFTER playing WWF Attitude, you can't help but shake the feeling that you already played ECW Hardcore Revolution without even playing your first match. Which is where this game suffers a lot. The only difference would be the speed, finishers, commentary and sound effects. Even with a Barbed Wire match being the only new feature, it doesn't hide the fact that this game is just WWF Attitude with ECW all over it.

- No way does this game spell "extreme"
They are so many elements of ECW that were not present in this game (such as RVD's trademark Vanterminator and Vandaminator). To be honest it would've been impossible to pull off some of these with the recycled wrestling engine used to make this game. And yes I am fully aware that the N64's capabilities were still very limited even to today's standards.

- Bad sound effects and voice acting
To say these were bad would be too nice, they're horrible. A lot of them were not needed and/or were ridiculously cheesy for the kind of style ECW was at the moment. Grown men who were accustom to having numerous items that weren't nailed down driven into their skulls, taking various wrestling bumps and what not, screaming things such as "drop some weight, lose the weight, God you're heavy or that hurts?" No, just no.

- Lack of match types
With the copied engine of WWF Attitude, it wouldn't surprise me that they would be a complete lack of match types to choose from. Yes we have the Barbed Wire match, but in reality, it doesn't matter.

ECW had a good idea to try and compete with both the WWF and WCW when it came to their video games, sadly with lack of marketing, funds, bad business deals and a carbon copy of a game people had played already, ECW Hardcore Revolution came as a major disappoinment for the N64. Play WWF Attitude, a lot better than playing this rushed game.
