Are you kidding me?

Okay, while, overall, I *did* find this game enjoyable to play, it does have some VERY serious flaws. I guess I should have suspected something awry from the very beginning. No character creation? In an RPG? Where the basic premise and tenet is ROLE-PLAYING? Are you seriously kidding me? Unfortunately not. You pick from one of four characters, which you can not modify except at level up, as you progress. You then are very limited in what your character can and can not do. AND, the skill sets afforded to you seem to make little difference which way you choose, as long as you select the heal sets and pump them early. Admittedly, I've only played through once, but I presume that the story progress is a little different for each character chosen. Still, it leaves you with the feeling that you've just watched someone else play through the game. Which brings up another point... random generation of items in no way makes up for clear and coherent item sets. Well, no, there's not even that, there are no items, technically, just things you can equip. No potions or salves, no herbalism, nothing, just arms and armor, rings and pendant, that's it. Okay, that wasn't the next point, I digressed. The next point was in playing through the game. Depth of story, character development, rich backgrounds, free game-play, these are all hallmarks of the best RPGs. With these things comes a necessity for extended gameplay, roughly 40 hours, if you run through fast, of actual gameplay for the good modern RPG. I finished this, with all quests and sidequests completed, in just over 20 hours. Did I feel ripped off? Oh, you betcha. But, I guess it was kind of a blessing in disguise since the dialogue and acting were really getting old/numb, and the story was really starting to wear, thin as it is already. Is it a stinker? No, not really. It's a fun play through IF you're open to the new Action RPG subgenre. But there's no meat on them there bones, so when you're done, you feel starved and cheated.
