Donkey Kong Country Returns shows 2D platformers are back with a bang.
Gameplay
Donkey Kong is played using the Wii mote on its side of with the Wii mote and Nunchuck combo. The goal is simple get to the end. A big dissapointment is you can't switch to Diddy Kong if your playing solo but in co- op it is much better.
The game has 8 worlds and plenty of secrets. Look out for yellow orbs which buy items,jigsaw pieces which unlock extras and the letters as well which spell out KONG. Some are very tricky to find and will have you coming back again to find them all. The bosses are very impressive too.
The controls are simple shake the Wii mote to pound and also Diddy Kong can hover by jumping when together. The 1 button will make you run faster. There are many types of levels like mine karts and flying in a rocket like barrell. The game starts out easy but ends up getting harder quick and that might put some people off.
The graphics and music are very nice and catchy and overall are a joy. It really stands out vry well and is a treasure to listen to.
The game will take about 5 hours to complete but then there's unlocking concept art,music and such as well as a Mirror Mode where you go backwards through the level.
Overall Opinion
A very enjoyable game that will tempt old school players and new school players as well. It is a great game and one I would definetly recommend. Fun,challenging and stunning to look at. The 2D platforming revival goes fromn strength to strength and hopefully there's more to come.
