Donkey Kong Country 3 Review for SNES and Virtual Console

User Rating: 9.5 | Super Donkey Kong 3: Nazo no Krems Shima SNES
This game is my third favorite game series of all time, everything about it is just fantastic. Back in 1990, the programmers created DKC1 following DKC2, whcih would have been better if the save sytem didn't make you pay two bannana coins per save.

Anyway on to the DCK3 review; the game got everything right including the save system. You will start the game off by floating on the waters of the Northern Kremisphere. At first you will need to go to Funky Kong to get your first boat. This however, only lets you visit the first world, which starts off simple enough. Treat the first level as a "training ground" where lives and Bear Coins are plentiful. Right from the start of it, coincidentally called Lakeside Limbo, you'll notice that the level is very calm without too much hassle to be found. Like the previous title, you can defeat the Kemlin guardian called Koin that blocked the level's DK coin. With each level you complete there will be more enemies, more level variety, coins, lives, treasures, ect. to be found. During the course of the game you will have the chance to transform into animal friends like Squaks the parrot, Squitter the spider, Ellie the elephant and more. For some reason you don't think that there are not enough challenges, look no further than the level's Bonus Barrels. You get bonus coins every time you complete one challenge and can be used to unlock the secret worlds of Krematoa which is hidden until you get a hint from one of the many Bear Brothers throughout the Overworld. On top of all that, you can visit kind old Wrinkly Kong to save your game and view your bannana bird bunch. When you are in the Overworld, you can find these mythical Bannana Birds in crystal caves. It's a lot like a game of Simon Says except the crystals correspond to a button on your controller, it will becoming increasingly more difficult each time you find a bird. If you're an old school Donkey King fan, then this will be sure to satisfy. Additionally, if you manage to beat the main game, you still have the Lost World to play through which feature some of the hardest levels in the game including levels where you can play as Ellie the Elaphant, face Kluff n' Klout and you'll even be able to ride in a rocket barrel. Although this game may seem like a kid-ish game, it's definitely not easy. Most of the time you'll find yourself screaming in anger, but these mistakes are usually your own fault. However, once you manage to beat the challenges you will feel like it was worth it. DKC3 isn't really anything new but if your looking for an old-school gaming experience, then this game has you covered.
