How did they go from CMR to bumper cars?

Dirt 2 is a good arcade racing game. It has really great visuals and sounds. The game design is stylish and smooth. The voice acting is a bit childish though and over the top. Driving and handling of the cars is decent for an arcade type of game, but it won't satisfy players who want to experience a good simulation. There is plenty of events to compete in but I wish there would be more tracks available as you see the same tracks over and over again. Another big let-down is the lack of championship option. There is a decent amount of cars in the game overall, but looking from a particular category of cars I think we could see more variety. Sadly there is no weather variety either (where is rain, snow, mud, ice, etc...?). You now even have things like flashbacks (where you are able to rewind time and repair your mistakes)! This option further proves the vast distance between past CMR games.

The main problem I have with this game is that the title "Colin McRae" is still in the game. Dirt 2 has absolutely nothing in common with the classic CMR games. The classic rally represents only about 10-15% of the game. The rest is basically bumper cars. This game had so much potential, but it's all wasted on this mindless arcade. If only they would stick with the original CMR concept...

Bottom line; if you never played CMR before and you are looking for a decent racing game - go for it. Dirt 2 is a fun game and it's a real eye candy. Don't expect too much depth though.

If you are CMR fan however - stay away from this game and keep looking for something else.
