A whole new universe on screen and in game, cool concept, a bit shaky implementation, but worth it to stay on the wagon

Think Borderlands + RIFT. There are a lot of upsides to this game - large scale boss battles, huge open world, great variety of skills, guns and loot, a very immersive environment. But there are a lot of downsides - those huge arkfall/boss battles are not as epic as they look. It is more of a show than an actual challenge. It's not a matter of will you win or not, but when - and everyone that shows up gets a participation medal. The NPC are not very hard or smart, especially with the multiplayer essence its even easier to beat and confuse with multiple targets. The game launch was a mess, the servers were down and are still going down. Considering the scale of putting it on three platforms, I understand there will be complications, but it still leaves a sour taste in your mouth. It is a game that jumps the line between PC and console, and the transition does not work seamlessly. Console players are used to DLC season passes, but PC players are used to having MMOs continually updated and expanded for free. This is offset by the microtransaction model on many PC games, something that is not as familiar on console games. But for all it's downfalls, Defiance is both a great game and hopefully a great tv series as well. It is more of a wholesome experience, and one appreciated by fans. If you can look past the forgettable graphics and easy gameplay, you'll find a good game. Who would I recommend it to? Not exactly for hardcore gamers, but still has a grind and MMO raid feel to it. Not exactly for beginners, but still very easy to play. I'd recommend it to someone who has time to fully get invested into a huge new universe, because I'm sure there will be further titles of this new IP.
