The unique setting separates Darkwatch from other FPS.

User Rating: 7.8 | Darkwatch PS2
Darkwatch is the first FPS I've played on the PS2. I am a veteran FPS player on the PC and was a bit hesitant about using a controller after years of keyboard/mouse shooting. Basically I decided to go for it because I was intrigued by the dark gothic setting as opposed to the typical WW2 or futuristic style that has been done so many times.
GAMEPLAY - I'm still getting acquainted with using the controller for a FPS game, so I have to admit that my opinion may not be the best. I will say that thankfully it was forgiving, giving me a wide range to help with my bad accuracy. There was a nice variety of weapons to use, and only being able to equip two at a time gave some strategy. The ability to use your guns as melee weapons was a nice touch. The jumping worked well. My complaint is that occasionally I would get trapped in a small space and really had a difficult time just trying to turn around.
GRAPHICS - Overall the graphics were done very well and brought a nice dark, gothic atmosphere mixed with the old west. There could have been a bigger variety of enemies but they were designed well and had locational damage and rag doll physics, which is always fun. The cut scenes seemed to be intentionally cartoonish, which did not impress me. Giving the cut scenes a more realistic look would have really added to the atmosphere, so I was a bit disappointed in that decision.
SOUND - The voices of the supporting characters were excellent. Sound effects were top notch and the small amount of music was nice. I only wished they had used the music more since I am a big fan of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, which was obviously the inspiration.
VALUE - It took me about six hours to complete this game so it definitely was short. Completion of the game opens up some bonus items, nothing that special. There is also the option to replay completed levels co-op style, which I haven't tried yet but it sounds interesting.
SUMMARY - I would recommend this game if you can buy it at a reduced price. I picked up a used copy for $15 and I would say it was worth it. The short length keeps it from being worth $30 or more. Best attribute is it's atmosphere, while it's biggest shortcoming is the length. Would also recommend as a rental
