Who knew God of War would mix so well with Zelda?
The story is quite interesting. I personally love the Biblical Apocalypse setting, and in an industry ruled by nuclear and zombie apocalypses, it's nice to see a more Biblical look. I'll admit I was disappointed that only one of the four horsemen is even included in the game. But the ending has War saying: "I'm not alone", then we see three comets falling. An obvious set up for a sequel, sadly, the story is a bit weak in terms of grip. You just don't feel too enthralled, but it's good enough for you to enjoy.
The graphics are not the best around. A bit of screen tearing is here and there, but nothing too bad. Although the graphics were not over the top, the design of the environments and characters is awesome. I love how it's very comic book oriented and yes, I know it kind of looks like Warcraft, but keep in mind; Warcraft took inspiration from comics much like this game, so there you have it.
Most important of all, is the game play. It works great, a decent amount of combos, cool items that have a hand in combat as much as puzzle solving, riding your horse, Ruin, feels empowering, and combat is fast and brutal. It can be quite challenging, so expect to die a couple of times or to get stuck with a brain teasing, Zelda styled puzzles. My one complaint was that the bosses were just not that exciting. Frankly, they were a bit boring. It works on Zelda because it's tradition, but when someone else tries to pull it off it just doesn't feel is good. I did like that the final boss was a sword fight with a fallen angel, that's just badass. But the gore is fun, the puzzles are fun, in short, the game's just fun.
Darksiders may not be the most original in terms of game play, but it's still quite allotted of fun. If you like action and/or adventure games, this one is surely not to be missed.
I give this game an 8.5/10 for it's fun marriage of two fun games, but it's lacking story and boring boss fights are what kept it back for a higher score. Still, go ahead and play this game, I highly recommend it.
