I will be doing lets plays of PVP when the game is released
Just putting this out there, I will be doing lets plays of PVP and perhaps whatever else I want to do when the game is released. I will be recording a video later today talking about that game and the new features, as well as similar ones too.
I want horse combat system with armor upgrades and customizations. We already have the targeting system in place, if you want to build on a already great game lets upgrade it, not create the "same thing" just new areas and armor?! Im not saying the whole game needs to be accessible by horse, in some cases you will need to spot the horse out side the cave, or befor you enter on the cliff ledge. This would be a true challenge for production, but if they did it, would set the bar in multiplayer combat. or you could just make a similar sequel to turn a quick buck like everyone else.
Actually the best crafting system ever used in a rpg was the one in Demon's Souls.. Dark Souls has a similar yet very different crafting system. Demons Souls was awesome cause everyone was all about getting the +6/+7 Weapon and finding the certain demon to kill to turn that weapon into a Giant Meat Cleaver, Bow or badass sword.... i miss that crafting system lol i think imma go beat Demons Souls again or just kick some more ass on Dark Souls... tonite
I don't know why you compere this game with Skyrim, or why do you hate Skyrim in the first place. These two games may look a little bit similar but they are very different games. Skyrim is based on role playing and exploration, but Dark Souls based on dying! Yes dying! Die die die all the friking time, You wanna explore, doing so will get your ass killed like 1000 times in a row. You wanna be a thief? No you cant be one, there is only one backstabing animation, and I don't remember any crouching feature in DS. Creatures respawing each time you rest, you have to admit it! This game is not hardcore, this game is sadistic, It had so much potential with it's combat system and unique setting, but I couldn't even finish it.
I would like to see more of what Demon's Souls was good at...more difficulty...more complex and mysterious yet logical and accurate stats, abilities, and items to decipher. I like realizing they had stats for everything, even stats you don't see, like poise. I would like the combat to likewise follow suit with these new abilities, new attacks, and new stats and become increasingly more complex. More mysterious atmosphere with top tier voice acting for every NPC. That was Dark Souls biggest weakness in comparison to demon's souls and the weakness of many successful games, they don't improve on what they were good at. There were so few new moves or attacks between the two. The mechanics were virtually the same. It was great that they gave a larger world to explore which was one aspect of an improvement of demon's souls, but also give more spells, more complexity, kind of like how castlevania improved in castlevania 3, there was a huge change in the battle mechanics of the three new characters you could play, while retaining the old stuff too or how WoW constantly adds new moves to its basic classes. I don't want them to lose what is already good. Just be more creative and add to it.
New environment, weapons and armour, updated graphics/animations better hit detection, expanded story. full Co-op mode...
If anything about the core of this game is changed, then your a huge sell-out.
I think the developer means by this that it will have more in game explanation on what is required from players. Some people who are new to Souls franchise don't know that they shouldn't be trying to go down a path if the enemies are Super hard until later, and they end up rage quitting because they think the game is just that hard! Dark Souls while hard wasn't that hard if you don't try to tackle areas that you aren't a high enough level for.
The dev has eluded to this fact when he first announced the new game, and i think that as long as he keeps the mysterious nature of and hard difficulty of the game it will be awesome. the most important part of the game is mysterious atmosphere and the feeling of not knowing what will happen just down those stairs or around the next corner!
I think as long as the crushing difficulty and the open world remain in Dark Souls 2 then it will be a good game. I personally interpret the news that the game will be more understandable and straightforward which means less time spent looking up stuff on the wiki that should be explained in the game. For example the detailed game mechanics. At the same time, I kind of enjoyed how the game was vague in gameplay and story. It made the world seem darker, more difficult, and hostile. A game meant to crush you.
I think what people most like about this series is how you aren't spoon fed everything like most games these days that no longer provide a real challenge. When you beat the game or even just a boss, it actually feels like an accomplishment rather than going through the motions of another game checked off the list.
I don't think at least having a difficulty option would be a bad idea. What gets me with Soul's boards is "I wish there were INSERT HERE" and then the mighty defenders chime in... "You motha@#!@# go play Skyrim you @#@# I ra#^%^ your mom you tea sucking #$#$34 pansy ! This game is for motha #$#$#$ real men!" I'm all for core as I loved the game, but a few more options , ie difficulty choice, you wanna play original souls difficulty, by all means. But, those that don't have the time or frankly the desire to die a thousand times , bam select difficulty, this wouldn't change much if anything at all. As some have pointed out, better multiplayer, co op (perhaps the selection for full game), etc. For those of you that wanna play complete core souls, you can. But what is wrong with offering other options? Or it could go the way of all other games that go stale and have a rinse and repeat of the same game over and over, while pretending to be revolutionary . Call of Duty perhaps?
i only want improvements on multiplayer.. it should be easier to find opponents & fights should last longer than 5 seconds. it makes the effort in invading hardly worth it, especially when it can take up to 30 minutes for a successful invasion
I was hoping that there will be more to anor londo , the place is fucking huge , they have to add something to explore more and to know more about different characters from the previous game ,
1 Like Dark Souls needs the things that generic RPG's have like...an extensive crafting system, extensive dialogue and dialogue options with more people and more cities and civilization (it feels like were in some prehistoric period b/c there's hardly any people in the game), multiple alternate endings based on who you kill and dialogue choices, a more "human" story instead of the dead guy story, i liked Demon's Souls story better with a hero trying to save something instead of feeling dead the whole time. I think they should make classes more distinct, something WoW and Baldur's Gate have a strong grasp upon which allows people to identify and attach to their characters. Even though you pick a thief or Wizard in Dark Souls it doesn't play like a thief or Wizard. Another thing is there needs to be a unique, more dramatic backstab cinematic for different monstesrs. Nonetheless Hidetaka has moved the RPG genre ahead light years with his contribution of mood, atmosphere, combat. There is an authentic creativity to his world while not altering what we know as RPG worlds in a bad way. He has the right idea that everything needed has already been created and draws most of his lore from original Dungeons and Dragons. I thought skyrim...putting vikings and dragons together was cheesy and its weird that you can pick some cat dude.

@SevenStyx Extensive crafting system? What exactly do you have in mind? You have "crafting" to a certain extent in Dark Souls as well. Upgrading armor, weapons and stuff via Blacksmiths and smith-boxes can be considered crafting. The item system they have right now is just fine imo and doesn't need to be "extensive". Of course, your "extensive" is very vague, therefor I can not argument any further on this topic.
As for extensive dialogue and dialogue options? Hell no! If you want to spend your game time discussing weather with NPCs and/or reading in-game books, go play TES games, not Souls. The dialogues are just fine as they are as well. Although you have no dialogue options, the NPCs usually respond to stuff you want to hear, without having useless dialogues.
This brings me to the next point - civilization. Terrible idea for souls series. The limited amount of NPCs actually make you care about them, listen to what they have to say and uncover some lore. If there were dozens, or even hundreds of NPCs, the game would not only lose it's dark atmosphere, it would also make most players ignore all but the story NPCs and important vendors, even if the other NPCs could unveil some interesting lore information.
As for classes, it is all the matter of how you build your character. If you decide to level up your Wizards strength, use a greataxe and wear heavy armor, of course it won't feel like a Wizard anymore. For classes I'd recommend reducing their amount instead, possibly removing them completely, since you have the stat system. As for the identification, I, for example, can identify with my character(s) just fine.
All of the stuff you are naming is already in other games, namely Skyrim. Not that it is a bad game, I've spent quite some time playing it, but trust me, a year or so after TES 6 will come out, people will be like "Skyrim? Yeah, it was a cool game.". Memories of Dark Souls, it's atmosphere and combat, however, will linger so much longer.

1 Like @RustedTruck650 @SevenStyx I wouldn't expect Dark Souls to have the same quantity in terms of the size of the world, cities, crafting etc...but I would expect higher quality. And as I mentioned above how this game parallels Castlevania, it could make improvements in distinct classes for a more diverse experience, larger world, better story telling, and even greater more diverse challenges. I am disappointed to hear that the game will start out a bit easier. I hoped it would get even harder, yet still fair as the game always is... Yes you fight, but in a sequel you keep the good, you expand and innovate otherwise you have the exact same game. I even expect better fight mechanics and more moves. What would you want for the sequel? Having played Demon's Souls which is the best game in a very long time I was kind of disappointed that the only difference with Dark Souls was it felt bigger, there were very few new moves (i think the kick and jump attack?). Additionally they took out the nexus and a heroic story and replaced it with an overly melancholy "dead" story...Not that I necessarily preferred the Nexus but I liked the idea of a "home" or a village or base where people, friends, allies with the same purpose gathered. The Firelink Shrine, had a weird feel to it, with the characters dispersed in a weird way, losing its human feel. The story also seemed too depressing, compared to Demon's Souls story which while you had the choice for a wicked ending, the good ending was pretty satisfying.
@SevenStyx @RustedTruck650 This game isn't supposed to be like "Castlevania" that's why its called Dark Souls 2. There's no need to expand at what Dark Souls does, just refine what it does... They don't need to expand their player base as its loyal. Your suggestions are going to fall on deaf ears. People like me don't want a bunch of bullshit crafting. And not every story has to be happy. This story had a different ending too so before you even talk about what you don't know about you should stop =.=

All Dark Souls 2 has to do to be successful is refine multiplayer and have a big bad world that doesn't resemble the last.
Also.... I loved the undead story so whatever you're idea about it being too melancholy is just absurd. I know many people loved the dark atmosphere
@God_Emporer @SevenStyx I hate the combat in both those games, i hate the vikings in skyrim. Despite the depth of those games, I still prefer Demon's Souls for its combat and atmosphere. Not necessary to be hostile. That's just how I feel the next step in Dark Souls has to be otherwise it'll be the same? I think there is a strong similarity in quality of Demon's Souls and Castlevania, both very challenging action combat games with challenging bosses and unforgiving in death. I feel Castlevania III was the peak of the series and it roughly took on these type of innovations, with distinct classes and a deeper story.

I read that Miyazaki was taken off the Dark Souls 2 project against his will because he did not agree to all of From Softwares changes, but they hired Shibuya (who's only experience is art for resident evil) because he wanted to make the game easier and more accessible to the people who did not like dark souls. Core content, i.e. swords. They're just going to pile on tutorials and linear progression, and 40-minutes cutscenes.
