It is about time in the last decade and a half that I have found something along the puzzler line to actually strive to be different and new.

In its basics the gameplay can be considered classic of the puzzlishness of any old school platformer, but there is one thing this one particular game does, and that only maybe Paper Mario has attempted (ok the 1st kindom hearts has an element of this too in the wonderland level), is the switchfooting of a 2D environment to a 3D. The ingenuity and intelligence of the level design in Crush should make Nintendo jealous. Anyone who wants to pick up a good problem solving mind bending game should check this out.

Crush gets its namesake by a "C.R.U.S.H." ability, which alternates the view af a 3D world to a 2D one, depending on which third dimension angle that you are facing. An expectation level of any platformer would make this seem trite and silly, but the level designers of Crush have done an amazing job at creating levels that require some real thought and foresight to achieve each level's goals. They have also done it at an expertly smooth pacing from the first easier levels to the trickier very hard levels.

Crush would not be complete without its storyline though. "A storyline in a puzzle game?... that is silly!" Some how it actually makes the game even more intriguing, especially the fact the main character is a dillusional insomniac. Progressing in the game unveils more of this psycho's psychosis through a comic book styled story board. Progressing through the game may be frusterating (pleasantly) at most times, but always gives a just reward.

Your PSP will face the threat of you "crushingly" folding it in half out of blindingly pure frusteration, but all the levels in this game are rewardingly achieveable, and offer unlockeable artwork and playmodes of the game.

If you have ever felt that any puzzle format has been there and done that, you will be glad the makers of Crush came up with this one. It might be the last original puzzle game.
