A Somewhat Engrossing Plot, With Post-Apocalypse Theme, But Gameplay Hasn't Changed Enough, With Multiplayer Problems

Call of Duty: Ghosts, another instalment in the franchise that fails to grasp me yet again. Ghosts for me, has only one redeeming quality being it's storyline and plot. It follows a somewhat Post-Apocalypse, or maybe a Post-Conflict plot. Like in the Cold War, a massive stone wall splits America in two, between remnants of the US military, and it's invading neighbour the Federation. You are the son of a famous General, who is also the secretive leader of the US military's Special Forces unit - the Ghosts.

With years gone, since the Federation invaded mainland America; the remnants of the US military in the North America prepare to take the war to the Federation, but come head-on against an even worse enemy. A former Ghost, and the former commanding officer for your father, when he was in the Ghosts. Rourke, is hunting down his former comrades in the Ghosts in revenge for them leaving him behind to die, in a past mission.

Not the most ingenious, or original plot since Black Ops had the very same storyline but involving the Russians brainwashing an American soldier, during the Cold War. For me personally, Infinity Ward loses major points for rehashing an old plot, and not having the minds to put together an original story for us in this title.

Now for it's mundane gameplay, another rehash of past Call of Duty games; nothing is original here. The very same mechanics that were evident in the very recent last installment; Black Ops 2 has returned, and with it the same boring feeling of playing the same game again, but with a different setting.

Graphically, being on the PS4 it does look crisper and much smoother in it's animations; but it's not enough to save Ghosts for me, to enjoy it.

As for it's soundtrack, it's another rehash of it's former predecessors, same combat-epic heavy soundtrack that is probably it's only saving grace during it's regular epic battles.

In terms of multiplayer, nothing has changed and I have noticed the maps are larger, which makes it a safe-haven for campers, and for the most part of most matches you are gunned down from afar, almost as bad as snipers were in past instalments.

The Good:

- A solid Post-Apocalypse theme and setting, in a sort of Cold War setting, following an invasion of mainland America.

- The same rehash of controls and gameplay, but it is still solid and easy to get back into even if it's unoriginal and hasn't moved in time with the new consoles out on the market.

- Some epic music soundtracks, that play alongside the big-scale battles and revelations.

The Bad:

- Same rehash of gameplay, nothing has changed for the benefit of the next-gen consoles.

- Multiplayer has not been improved on for the benefit of players who hated how easy it was for campers, and snipers in past instalments. Weapons in multiplayer are also too powerful, and it only takes a few shots to kill you, and once you've been hit once, you cannot react and try and get away, as you're already as good as dead.

- A short, and uneventful campaign, that mirrors past instalments and their lack of an interesting plot, and setting that was needed.

Call of Duty: Ghosts to me personally was a lack-bluster of a release, with nothing new to offer except the same rehash of the entire franchise's past innovations, I would only consider it worthwhile for the loyal, die-hard fans of the franchise. For others, it would maybe best to try Killzone: Shadow Fall for a FPS title, on the PS4 at this moment in time.
